Quizzing has always been a tradition at IIM Calcutta. It comes as no surprise that ICQC, IIM Calcutta’s official Quiz Club is among the oldest quizzing societies in the country. It goes back to the days of 'seeding quizzes' during the early batches, some of which used to be conducted by the likes of Neil O'Brien - the father of quizzing in India. Typically internal quizzing activity at Joka starts in July with the Fresher’s Quiz (hosted by alumni) and goes on right up to the end of February, with the Farewell Quiz. In between these two are several events, including the IIM Calcutta Quizzing League, the open quiz at Intaglio, quizzes at Carpe Diem, themed quizzes in association with other clubs, occasion based quizzes etc. The quiz club also hosts quizzes across the country in association with other quizzing societies.
Peer learning, quizzes, late night submissions all form part of a rigorous life at a business school and SPJIMR is no exception. To add to this extensive and exhaustive academic rigor are a host of competitions which are launched across B school campuses in India. Competitions which bring real life problems to the classroom asking for an approach that befits a management graduate. They are just as important as the next big assignment, sometimes even more. Because they give you an opportunity to don the manager’s hat and grapple with problems gripping the corporate world. The case is your canvas and you can pave the way for solutions reflecting thought processes brimming with innovation, business acumen, and grounded in practicality.
The Indian woman seems to have moved beyond the social boundaries that restricted her to make her presence felt in all spheres. She is taking the route that the women in the west took, perhaps a hundred years back. Her own individuality as a woman is gaining focus and a clear example of the same is the cultural shifts in marriages in India. Changing Cultures in Indian Marriages Starting right from moving out of the traditional arranged marriage set up, women in India are redefining culture. They are not only rubbing shoulders with men in professional spheres but also taking a lead in personal relationships and marriages.
It’s that time of the year again when the two passions of our nation- Cricket and Bollywood come together for the extravaganza known as Indian Premier League. IPL is about marketing, finance, operations, strategy and human resource management. All the domains of MBA are associated with this mega event and there are management lessons to be learnt from this competition.

Swearing by these thoughts is Pratima Sinha of SPJIMR, who added to the list of young entrepreneurial ventures with her initiative - 'ARTistocracy'. Fresh out of Shri Ram College of Commerce, she is motivated and focussed on making a mark in the field of art and entrepreneurship. Her venture- ARTistocracry provides a platform for budding artists - without any prior recognition or experience- to showcase their artistic talent in student led exhibitions.
