10 likely encounters on your first day in B-School

In few weeks, a few lucky ones will change their tag from aspirant to student. From several thousands who appear GD/PIs, only a select few who are deemed to be special and can contribute to the diversity of the batch will make it to a b-school. This article gives a glimpse of the different kinds of people who are likely to be encountered on the first day in a b-school.

Learning the Art and Craft of Getting Things Done at SPJIMR

Learning the Art and Craft of Getting Things Done at SPJIMR

At SPJIMR, it is believed that there is no better way of learning than hands on experience in the field . And this is made possible with the unique empowering program called the - Assessment & Development of Managerial & Administrative Potential(ADMAP)Program- wherein each student is formally enrolled in a committee (in his/her first year) that functions just as a department in any organisation. Each committee is headed by a faculty member who is responsible for facilitating committee activities and providing overall support and guidance. This program enables students to get a hang of the entire system and be involved in the decision making and running of the institute.

Management in Groups

Management in Groups

All MBA students are taught Organizational behavior and group dynamics in class through text books but the actual learning comes through group assignments and well……whatsapp. There would be similar roles being played by different individuals in each group. There would be those who work, those who present, those who make presentations, those who beautify the presentations and finally those who do absolutely nothing at all. Similarly there would be those who would reply to every post in a whatsapp group, those who would master in smileys, those who would post forwarded jokes and images, those who would make guest appearances and finally those who would have the group on mute at all times. You find your role and learn to work in these real and virtual groups in your two years.

How Diversity helps in a MBA classroom - Meet SPJIMR students

How Diversity helps in a MBA classroom - Meet SPJIMR students

Diversity by design gradually should lead to diversity by extension being a natural part of the student pool at a Business School. However like everything that is slightly off the beaten path, this idea too has taken root and shape gradually at SPJIMR. With a unique approach which incorporates a focus on “value based leadership” from where can emerge leaders with a grounded perspective on things-that-be; diversity certainly adds to the “value” in the “value based leadership” that SPJIMR assimilates within its students.

An Inspiring Story of how SPJIMR students are Touching Lives of the Underprivileged

An Inspiring Story of how SPJIMR students are Touching Lives of the Underprivileged

SPJIMR balances academic learning having a global outlook with social sensitivity in order to groom its students into truly global leaders with a unique perspective and take on things. It has three learning innovations that it has incorporated through its coursework: Science of Spirituality with learnings from the holy Geeta; DOCC- Development of Corporate Citizenship – a six week rural internship in various villages and towns across India and Abhyudaya- a year-long mentoring process where each student mentors a bright, underprivileged child. These three programmes which run year long during the first year of the two year flagship programme have been developed with the idea of incorporating a keen sense of right and wrong in order that managers can make key decisions that impact the various stakeholders keeping the larger purpose of business in mind.

Final Placements: SPJIMR Mumbai - Class of 2014

Final Placements: SPJIMR Mumbai - Class of 2014

We are happy to note that SP Jain has provided placement data to us in the InsideIIM format. SP Jain has been publishing its final placement report, audited by CRISIL, in the IPRS format since 2011 (read the 2011 report here and the 2012 report here ). We were unable to find the 2013 report in the IPRS format. At InsideIIM, our view on the IPRS format is that although it provides an amazing level of detail about salaries, it suffers from a drawback because it does not incorporate profile information (i.e. the job profile for which the candidate was hired). We appreciate the forthrightness of SP Jain for reporting its placements in the IPRS format, but we also believe that the quality of job profiles is the most critical input while evaluating the placements at a B school. The InsideIIM placement report provides data on job profiles, and we are delighted to have this data from SP Jain from this year onwards. We hope this is the beginning of a long and fruitful relationship.
