It all came to an end I thought, all those sleepless nights and sweating in the middle of the night. This had to stop somewhere, never knew when it would. With that thought in mind, while entering into IFMR, the only thought that was all the time pinching me was how to get the most out of the investment in the form of money.
Your day starts at 8.45 AM and never ends. There are classes, exams, assignments, assignments, and some more assignments. All of these, in a campus, situated nearly 20 km away from the city area, only between mountains, wildlife, and all kinds of floras and faunas that you can ever think of, except humans. Even the dogs around are never able to sniff out the omnipresent Dominos or CCD stores, let alone the niches. Sounds like a mundane life, doesn’t it? Well, guess what! It’s not even close. Why, you ask? Because IIM Sambalpur has little pieces of chocolates that save me from these life-sucking dementors. People call these chocolates as SaP.
It has been almost a week since I joined the campus and it is as serene and beautiful as I had expected it to be. It is not an ordinary institute, it is actually an ecosystem where each and every component has an equally important role to play, even the animals are a part of it and are taken care of in the best possible way. Coming to our batch, we have a small batch size, which makes it easy for us to become inseparable part of one another’s life and helps us to achieve our goals together. Here, we have a perfect amalgamation of people from different regions of the country which provides a holistic view of the society as well as exposes one to various different cultures. It is the diversity that makes us unique and strong. In the few days, I have come across with many people including our Dean, faculty members, notable alumnus from TISS, our seniors from the previous batch and representatives of various social support groups at TISS and their inputs in various orientation sessions have enlivened me for my onward journey at TISS.
Hola newbies (even though I know I may be addressing some of those who have a work-ex as high as 5-6 years). Congratulations on landing in the college of your dreams. Let the feeling sink in for some time before you move on to what can only be called the best and the most challenging year of your academic career, if not life.
As mystical as it may sound but ‘balance is the key’. For those of you who’ve read ‘Eat Pray Love’, you may find that the cliched ending to the story is actually the key to survival at a b-school.

Getting into a b-school is all about fighting against all odds. But for some people, it isn't always a level playing field. Some people have to strive through more than the CAT preparation and interview calls. They have to keep going and chasing their dream with even more determination. And if they can do it, you can too.
After all the tough times, sleepless nights, late-night studies, solving aptitude, reading English articles, memorizing vocabulary, revising formulas, clearing CAT or XAT or NMAT or MH-CET or some other entrance exam and after that giving GDs and interviews, and clearing them too. Finally, you prepare yourself for a b-school you have been eying for a long time.
