A Letter From A Senior To A Junior - A Guideline For The First Year Of MBA
Dear batch of 2020, this is a welcome note for you.
Dear batch of 2020, this is a welcome note for you.
As far as my knowledge goes, every management institute has a component of class participation in the marking scheme of subjects. Professors enjoy having this component as part of their marking agenda, apparently because it helps them gauge how much knowledge a student has absorbed in the classroom. In my opinion, the component of class participation does more damage than it actually aids the process of learning.
With June already here, MBA aspirants have ramped up their preparations and b-schools have geared up to welcome their new batches. Whether you are an aspirant or you are joining your dream b-school shortly, there’s always this one thing that needs to be answered – Do grades really matter when you are in a b-school?
It begins with some stretching outside the girl’s hostel, where the big beautiful palm trees sway in the cool breeze, blissfully unaware of the chaotic life of those around. As soon as you start your run you get a whiff of the warm evening snacks from the mess, tempting you to abandon the whole thing and eat! But when you see the majestic trees with the vibrant red tops on your left you just know you can’t stop now! You run further and enter the faculty area where you see the families having a wonderful time together, you see little children playing around, you hear their sweet voices over the sound of your own slightly heavy breath and you smile. You feel refreshed seeing families, seeing stability and warmth after the contrasting fast college life you experience every other minute. A little more trudging along gets you to the snake road, twisty and turny with lush green trees on either side (and probably actual snakes too!), it takes you to the Sunset Point. The uphill run is rewarded with a breath-taking sight that changes depending on the time you get there; if you’re there in the day, you see the lush green campus beneath you with the bright blue sky above; if you’re there in the evening then you see the beautiful sunset, the lovely sky with a tinge of orange and red; and if you’re there in the night you catch a sight of Indore twinkling beneath you. Running some more gets you to the favourite part of any other runner, the downhill run!! You spread your arms looking at the beautiful sky in front of you and you run as fast as you can without falling, smiling all the way down; you reach the boy's hostel; with the majestic cricket stadium in front of them. You see your classmates playing football and you wave at them and carry on down to the grand auditorium where you are welcomed by the sweet-smelling jasmine growing across from the water reservoir; which boasts of a full level during the rains but dries up in despair in the summer. When you’re past the auditorium it gets a little tough, you’ve been running for long and the road ahead of you is uphill, but you’ve come so far! You plod along and are rewarded by the grand gates of IIM Indore. You turn away from them and see the path ahead; yellow flowers in the middle and green trees on either side, birds chirping, encouraging you to go on, you smile through all the heavy breathing and get back up on the snake road only to be welcomed by the beautiful sight of Sunset Point again. You know you’re going to stop now, you decide to race yourself till the end and reach the stairs you climb for college every day in a time better than yesterday. You race, you run as fast as you can and you stop at the
A role play about a company founder and his CXO’s was being conducted in our classroom. But what’s so memorable about a role play. Tons of role plays are done across business schools in India. What makes this one memorable? - The answer - It was more than a role play. The case was about a toy company which is facing some problems as a kid died by swallowing a small piece of the toy. After being handed their role descriptions, the play proceeded as expected.
When it comes down to describing your b-school life experience, everyone gets excited and pumped up. So, here’s a quick glimpse at life at IIM Indore – the people here, the campus, the faculty and most importantly, what makes IIM Indore among the most beautiful campuses of the country.
