Although there were many classroom experiences which were worthy to be remembered, I would like to spell out one memorable experience encountered by me in our b-school.

It must not be a novel concept to anyone appearing for any of the aptitude tests that one of the most frequently asked questions in any interview is ‘Why MBA?’ Most of us find it really difficult to articulate their views on this question. I was not an exception when I appeared for the interviews after CAT. The life of an IT individual was probably not suitable enough for me, that I took this decision of pursuing further studies. But many times, I could not even convince myself with this answer.
“A thousand words full of worth; Time spent appreciating earth, Clouds, sunshine, or even on a rainy day; My admiration for you will never go astray, Academics are important but never forget to live life, It’s easy to feel lost; But now I can say that I am found.”
The summer of every year, hundreds of new students arrive at the campus with a bag full of dreams and ambition. I am one among those hundreds, staring at the gate of the 30-year-old institute. Standing calmly in the heart of Bhubaneswar amidst all the hustle, grand in its own sense. So what is unique about this? Let us look deeper into XIMB!
What is unique? According to the Oxford dictionary unique means being the only one of its kind; unlike anything else. So, is my campus unique? Let’s find out based on my now 12-month long relationship with this place, IIM Udaipur. The only place other than my home where I have lived for more than two months. Yes! I was going to live in a hostel for the first time. My school was four kilometres from my home, my engineering college six kilometres and my office forty kilometres away from my house. Although this was not intentional and I intended to move to another place for doing my engineering, but life has other plans. Nevertheless, I wished to gain exposure to living in another city away from home and experience that part of life also. Finally, after joining IIM-Udaipur, I was getting that chance. So, IIM-Udaipur was going to be my home for the next 21 months.
Ever since I joined this b-school, I was a bit sceptical, since, like most people applying for CAT, I wanted to land up into the IIM territory. However, making peace with my ambitions, I joined XIMB. And thus began a journey that I had never contemplated. XIMB provides you with a platform where you get to explore yourself and showcase your skills & talents at the highest level and get better. The one thing that sets apart XIMB from other b-schools is its wide spectrum of student activities and its rich array of cultural activities. Despite the rigorous academic schedule, the zeal with which student activities take place in the campus is appalling. Cultural events are staged frequently, where all students, get an opportunity to showcase the talent which usually remains unravelled in the pursuit of landing up a job. The rich sporting culture that XIMB exhibits are second to none. Every other day, people can be seen dribbling in basketball courts till 4 am. This not only enhances the bond between the students but also instils a sense of sportsmanship which is essential in this business. Students here are quite participative in the numerous competitions held at the campus, thus enhancing their acumen for corporate knowledge and analytical skills. The Management-Cultural fest organized by the institute is arguably the biggest extravaganza of b-schools in the Eastern region. Indulging in these student activities provides one a holistic perspective of all the work that goes into organizing and managing an event. It makes us work as a team to achieve a specific goal, which is perhaps the most important pre-requisite for a successful stint in the corporate world. The enthusiasm displayed in all these activities by the students is quite encouraging and also exhibits the importance of extra-curricular activities in shaping up one’s personality in the eyes of the students. Hence, student activities and the various committees functioning actively form an integral aspect of what XIMB stands for.

It has been almost a month since I joined the Master of Hospital Administration course in TISS, Mumbai. Whatever I expected before joining or even before applying for this course, it seems like I am getting more than that in every aspect.
