A CA’s Ride To The 99th Percentile | Manas Sathe, CAT 2020

My MBA goal has been a long-coveted dream. My father is a proud alumnus of IIM Ahmedabad, and I grew up hearing countless stories about his wonderful time there. I also attended his batch’s alumni reunion at IIM A, saw the beautiful campus and learned first-hand about the outstanding achievements that its alumni demonstrate. I also saw that the campus had a dedicated room for music, a dear passion of mine. I left inspired and decided that I MUST pursue MBA too. While my motivations may have changed over time, the dream still lives on.

Being a commerce student, quants was my weakest point. I started my preparation in August 1st week and I had almost 4 months to prepare for CAT but since I was working, I had just weekends and the spare, 2 or 3 hours after working for 10-11 hours in the office. If you guys think that in mocks, your percentile is lower and when will it actually go up, just to give you a startling fact, I was getting around 49%ile in August, 60%ile till September. Then, around 80% till October Mid. It was only by November 1st week, that I started getting around 90%ile by November. So, how did I do it?

Acing The Last Leg Of CAT 2020 - Tips By IIM Rohtak Students

CAT 2020 will be held on November 29th, and there are only a few weeks of preparation time left. If leveraged well, these weeks can play a defining role in the final verdict. The preparation for the CAT exam needs to be as strategic as the final attempt itself. While laying the groundwork for a win, it is essential to keep in mind that every section is equally important. When starting any section, be sure about the strategy. Give mocks at the same time slot as your exam. Sometimes, the results of the mocks are unsatisfactory. Remember that mock scores are just a reflection of your preparation; they do not guarantee how much you will score overall. Perform a thorough analysis and evaluate what could be done better. A positive mindset is crucial at this stage.  CAT will reward you for picking the low hanging fruits first. Similarly, it massively penalizes you for wasting time on hard questions.
