The winds of change

The winds of change

Right in the middle of the beautiful and unplumbed state of Chhattisgarh lies a city called Bilaspur. The city, which happens to be the birthplace of the author, is vibrant- with active communities and robust gatherings- and yet, calm and quiet. The marketplaces are crowded at definite hours and the nights are quiet, with the exception of some enthusiastic bikers. While the heart of the city hasn’t quite changed in the past twenty years, its skin has. Commercial centres have sprung up across the city and spending habits have changed, entertainment has changed. All this brings me back to the day when the first mall opened here, in the year 2011. With a select few shops and eateries back then, it became the talk of the town. One of the first few stores to open here was Pantaloons- the ultimate stop shop for all things clothing. I remember how it completely changed the idea of shopping for so many people. Now you wouldn’t have to go around hundreds of shops in Gol Bazaar to get the latest trends. You had to go to one place. The sheer excitement and an absurd sense of empowerment that people felt with this establishment- this new way of doing things- gave the city a new life. To realise potential in a city when others didn’t, to be the pioneers of a commercial upsurge in a tier 3 city, my city, was a contribution of the Aditya Birla Group that stayed with me. In the years to come we would see a number of stores and commercial centres spring up but we all know who gave us the first glimpse into this change that has manifested itself firmly today. I went on to pursue my graduation in Mumbai where again I crossed paths with an ABG product- the Idea Network (now Vodafone Idea). In my many endeavors, ABG has been on the side, in the form of one or the other product.

The Aditya Birla Group: Dressing up for Success|Valli Priyanka, IIFT

When I was a kid, I would hate dressing up.  Every morning would be a struggle for me to wake up and get dressed up for school. I wouldn’t have much of an interest in dressing up for any event, be it parties or functions. It has always been my parents who have emphasized on the importance of dressing up to an occasion. But soon after I realized how important dressing appropriately could be.

I was born and brought up in a happy, lower-middle-class family in Aurangabad, Maharashtra. I have always been a fun loving yet a mischievous kid. I still remember the episodes where I had had left-and-right for breaking my Mom’s only glass set. I remember the sacrifices my Mother has made for me, be it missing on the family functions or giving up on her aspiration of being a teacher. She couldn’t be a teacher but she is definitely the greatest guru! Her teachings and life lessons has helped me become a thinker! And I always try my best to make her feel proud of me.

Aditya Birla Group – The ever present force from my childhood to adolescence

For an 8 year old kid going to a boarding school for the first time, I was quite unaware of the impact a conglomerate could have in my life. It was then when a sense of responsibility and understanding was inculcated within me beyond my will to actually work upon it. Growing up, I had seen my father put on Louis Philippe apparels and I had been always intrigued by his sense of style and the persona that he reflected in those trademark LP designs. Him dressing up for office and sporting an LP look affirmed the sense of style that I grew up to embark in myself. Little did I know that a conglomerate named Aditya Birla Group, was shaping me to become the man I am in so many ways I was unaware of.

In the hot summers of 2006, at the age of 13, I visited a Lifestyle store in Hyderabad for the first time. Having lived in Dar-Es-Salaam Tanzania since 2001, I was ecstatic to do some serious shopping. My mother and sister were beyond enthusiastic and had already started making plans on what type of clothes to buy and what colours. My father, in his usual detached manner, was firm in his decision to buy a formal attire from his favourite brand – Allen Solly. If at all there was a shopping picnic, this would be it. We booked a cab in the Sunday morning and set sail to do some shopping.

“The Car has become the carapace, the protective and aggressive shell, of urban and suburban man” a famous quote by a Canadian Philosopher Marshall McLuhan. Since childhood, I have been passionate about automobiles be it bikes or cars. My love for automobiles leads me to choose mechanical engineering in Undergrad. The presence of Aditya Birla group products in the automobile world is unmatchable, it’s their aluminum that makes a modern car powerful and light. Novelis a part of Aditya Birla Group is the primary supplier for aluminum for automobile chassis be it high-performance cars like Range Rover, Audi, BMW or be it affordable cars like Hyundai, Ford Novelis aluminum is present everywhere. Novelis aluminum is not just a supplier but they are collaborators and problem solvers, they work closely with automobile OEM’s and help them to build next-generation high-performance vehicles. With the rise of Electric vehicles, the need for Copper for motors, wiring harness would rise and Aditya Birla Group Hindalco industry is a renowned leader in Copper space.
