Banking and Finance is one of the most sought after roles at a B-school campus, perhaps second only to management consulting roles that have an equally (if not more) glamourous aura about them. At top B-schools such as the IIMs, FMS Delhi, MDI Gurgaon, JBIMS Mumbai etc., Finance roles have been the most desirable for students, as is clear from the placement reports of these institutes.
Another year, another round of interviews. Aspirants queue up outside the gates of B-schools, hoping to make it in. Dozens of variables come into play in deciding the fate of the quintessential aspirant. The aspirant’s brain is a swirling mass of information about the top B-schools – the culture, opportunities, clubs, brand, academic rigour to name a few. As our tense aspirant awaits his/her results, the friendly neighbourhood aunt raises the stakes. She waltzes in your home boasting of the son of her second removed cousin who made it into the best B-school in the country. You think to yourself, ‘I had 99 problems, now I got 100’.
Remember, CAT is a rejection process while the IIM WAT-GD-PI is a selection process.
Professor Tanusree Dutta, Faculty at IIM-Ranchi, was recently voted by the students of IIM-Ranchi as the InsideIIM Professor of The Year! She was kind enough to answer a set of questions we posed to her around her experience as a Professor at one of India's top IIMs, teaching some of the brightest minds in the country.
