As the b-school entrance exams season kicks off in a few months all the MBA aspirants will be busy taking the mock tests, revising and mugging all the formulas and analysing the strong and the weak areas. Here I will be sharing a journey of one such person who was a previous year CAT aspirant and now is in a top b-school.
I’m sure, now that the date of CAT 2017 is out, the race to the finish line has already begun. Everyone has started gearing up for the D-Day. All sleeping beauties have been suddenly jolted out from their stupor as they realised that preparation time now has started its own countdown. Did this happen with me? Yes, it definitely did. Was I successful in getting calls? No, I wasn’t. Then how did I get to IIM Indore?
“I have heard there are 2012 pass outs in our batch as well. How do they even have the energy to do an MBA? Don’t they feel old?” quipped a gleeful “fresher” walking right in front of me (she, obviously, didn’t know about my background just 15 days into the program). My name is Sambhavi Ganguly. I joined IIM Lucknow (popularly known as “Hel(L)” among the students) in 2017. I have 4 years of work-ex in the electronics industry. I am a 2012 engineering graduate, and I don’t feel old!
This seems like a dreadful question for every MBA aspirant right? Some of you might as well argue that it depends on which IIM it is, but you would still get my point. Those moments of self-doubt, that high level of nervousness and those misleading probabilistic calculations of "Will I get through or not?" It's a whole different roller-coaster of emotions. This one question became the reality of my life and it's safe to say that I have the answer to it.

When I left my hometown (Samastipur, Bihar) for embarking on my 2- year PGDM journey at LIBA, Chennai, I never knew that I will fall in love with my new home within a month. But that is how LIBA is. It grows on you.
As the train left Rourkela station on 16th of june, 2017, there wasn’t a tiny bit of sadness on my parents’ face. There was but a whole ocean of pride, easily discernible. Their son was going to an IIM, the nearest one to home. “Make sure you come home on alternate weekends, beta”, were the last words I heard my mother say before the train noisily dragged out of the station.
In 2014, I was in the final year of my engineering. I had got a campus placement in one of the coveted companies, my engineering college was the top private college in the state of Andhra Pradesh (Now Telangana), and I was just 21, the future looked bright, and for the first time in my life I stepped out of my home and went to Mumbai the land of dreams.
