A year ago, I came to IIM Bangalore abreast with dreams of becoming the next big revolutionary brand manager. You know, we all have our fantasies. Here was the country’s best B-School: all had to do now was ask, well, and also lose all my hair, working hard to realize that fantasy. IIM Bangalore offers electives at the end of the first year itself of the Post Graduate Programme in Management, allowing students to invest more energy into what they identify with. Although, the degree awarded to everyone is the same, one can always gain deep knowledge through selective choice of electives.
In the early 1900s, commerce in the city of Mumbai was dominated by Gujarati and Parsi traders. The shops which were located on the corners of lanes weren't preferred by the Gujarati traders as they were 'Sinh-mukhi' or shaped like a lion's face, which was considered inauspicious in Hinduism. They preferred the non-corner shops as they were 'Gau-mukhi' or shaped like a cow's face - a very auspicious shape for Hindus. The corner shops were thus available for much cheaper rates and Parsis all over the city took up these shops and several of them were turned into Irani restaurants, a few of which have survived the advent of modernity.
Who exactly are psychopaths? We have many T.V series that have characters based on psychopaths and sociopaths. There’s Dexter, Sherlock, Joffrey Baratheon, Ramsay Bolton, Dr House and many more. Often the word psychopath and sociopath are used interchangeably but the truth is that they are quite different. The key difference between the two is that Psychopaths have no conscience ergo feel no guilt at all and are meticulous whereas Sociopaths do have a conscience but a very weak one and are quite reckless. Both these terms fall under the spectrum of Anti-Social Personality Disorder and have quite a few overlapping traits.
Cricket stadia across small town India have suddenly started seeing the influx of large batches of school kids accompanied by their teachers and peons to attend the international cricket matches. The former generation would remember going to the stadium with their cricket-crazy families in the 90s - the madness of a stadium considered to be no place a school should organize an excursion to.
During a girls gossip session in a wing… we realized that every guy at IIM B has a girl friend in campus or claims to have one outside the campus. Sadly, both might not be true. Here’s a successful MBA’s strategy.
Team InsideIIM brings to you a new series called ‘The Real Life MBA’. There are so many successful entrepreneurs unheard of from whom we all can learn a few principles of management. There is definitely more to management than what we learn in B-schools. We at InsideIIM believe there are stories in every nook and corner. So we decided to hit the road and explore stories of some small-medium businesses and how they made it big without an MBA.
Shoppers, invariably seek 2nd opinion prior to finalising the item they desire to buy. This trait is exhibited more by women shoppers. No wonder, many at times women shoppers go shopping in groups, so that group members can offer 2nd opinion to their friends.
