My Interview Experience At SJMSOM, IIT Bombay (2021-23) | Gangadhara Kavya

I am delighted to share my interview experience at SJMSOM through this post. My slot for the personal interview was scheduled on 6th March 2021 in the afternoon session. Use of the "Gather" platform provided a feel of the offline experience, just like being on the campus and looking around (which was not possible because of the current pandemic). We entered the auditorium of the platform and were addressed by few seniors, who gave a briefing about the process for the day. Each panel had a student strength of around 15 to be interviewed and we were assigned with one mentor to guide us for the entire interview process. I was sixth in line for the personal interview. As soon as I entered the interview room, I was greeted by two alumni ( A1 and A2) and one professor at SJMSOM.

The Interview Experience For SJMSOM

Being a year of pandemic, all the interviews went online this year. This didn't give us the actual experience of visiting campus and giving the interview but eventually helped us to save a lot of time and efforts on travelling. Unlike most other b-schools SJMSOM did make an effort to try and give us the same kind of experience as we might have got on a non-pandemic year. They used a platform called Gather for the same. It was the first time I was hearing about the platform leave alone using it. Hence was a bit nervous that I shouldn’t have any technical glitches on the D-Day. However, the usage videos and the UI of the platform was very user friendly and made us feel like actual campus with auditorium, rooms, helpdesks!

My Journey To SJMSoM - Aishwarya Chandak

"After climbing one mountain, you realize there are many more mountains to climb. MBA is the next mountain in my journey." I graduated as a computer engineer in 2018 from Mumbai University. After completing my graduation, I have worked with an investment banking firm as an IT analyst for close to 2 years. Then I decided to write CAT and left my job four months before the exam. Preparation times were not easy, as a good day was determined, whether the mock went well or not. A bad mock would not just ruin the day but also made me question my decision to write CAT. After many ups and downs, all the decisions and efforts worked out well, and I secured the 98.91th percentile. Getting the cat scorecard was only half the battle won. The interview processes for all the colleges started pretty soon after the results. On 22nd February, I got the personal interview details for SJMSoM. My interview date - 6th March, also happens to be my birthday. I believe that was the first clue of things to come! SJMSOM interview was organized very uniquely on the "Gather" platform that gave a unique touch to the whole day process and made it an engaging virtual experience. My interview started with background about myself, moving on to some questions around my native place. Further, the discussion revolved around my work experience and popular topics correlated with my graduation and professional career. The conversation continued on my reasons for pursuing MBA. It concluded on a light note where I had mentioned, "I used to travel past the IITB campus every day for two years, and now I am looking to step in". I believe my confidence, positive attitude, and the birthday vibe that I was carrying helped me get through apart from my CAT score and academics.
