Whenever we talk about pursuing an MBA in India, we think of clearing CAT as the only milestone. However, we forget that the CAT is just an elimination step in a very long journey. After CAT starts a journey of filling forms, writing essays, SOPs, appearing for interviews, GDs and what not. In this crucial journey of appearing for CAT, we give almost a little importance in understanding what MBA is all about, we forget how clarity of why we want to do MBA is the first step in this journey.

It has been almost a year since I started with the preparation of a so called ‘tough exam’ – CAT. There are some things that come to you naturally even if you try to turn a blind eye to everything around you. One such thing is the thought of your past academic scores. The world starts talking about them till the point you really start asking to yourself - ‘How would I have known in my class X or XII that I’d be taking up CAT exam one day?’

This is an open letter from an MBA student to a CAT aspirant. This isn’t a letter to an unknown person. But the words a senior friend of mine passed onto me and which I am passing down to you all.
Should you go to b-school only for stellar placements? Are your 2 years at b-school the investment you make just to get a good job? And does your education really teach about the real world? Because let’s face it, you might be from a premium b-school, but there are somethings you learn in b-school which you might never apply in your work life. I wrote my first story when I was in 6th standard, and it ended up getting published in the school magazine. I always wanted to master an art, and this was the start of my artistic journey. Writing short stories for the next few years taught me the importance of following my passion and keeping myself busy. When I was in 2nd year of B.Tech, I wrote a Bollywood song parody, and my bond with pen took a new dimension of rhymes.
