Intel – the brand name itself invokes a powerful sense of recall in the minds of the consumers. So, when I got to know that I would be having the interview for a summer internship with Intel, I was both excited as well as a tad bit nervous. “What if I made it? What if I lost the chance to intern with Intel?” – those questions had been going on in my mind.
Getting accepted into Universal Business School (UBS), Mumbai was the turning point of my life. Growing up and getting my primary and secondary education in a Marathi medium school in the city of Nashik had its own benefits but also a few difficulties. Dedication and sincerity were instilled in right along with an abundance of self-doubt. Will I be accepted in this professional world? Will I be laughed at? How do I communicate well? and many such questions paraded my mind. Nevertheless, it didn't hinder the hope for amazing life and excitement about getting this opportunity and with bags packed with necessities and eyes packed with dreams I set out on this journey.
It was a bright sunny morning in the first week of April and the iconic blue glass tinted building of ICICI headquarters at Bandra Kurla Complex, Mumbai stood right in the middle of the large corporate park, looking simply stunning to the enthusiastic bright young interns handpicked from premier B-schools in India for one of the most important parts of their MBA journey – the Summer Internship.
The two months of my internship were intense, to say the least, with knowledge, ideas & opportunities coming towards me from all directions. But as Tony Stark, the genius Billionaire Playboy Philanthropist (of which I am none ) said it, “The Part of the journey is the end,” and I really will try to do 'whatever it takes' to translate my 2 months of adventure into words.
Summer Internship is the turning point in the life of any MBA student, and it was no different for me. I got to intern at Sulochana Thapar Foundation at Ranchi with the Urban innovative team constantly working upon the development of the municipal officials. Well, we were previously warned by our project officers not to aspire about a typical workplace with your own cubicle to work with as our job demanded us to do research and onsite visits.
Working in a product based company for 3 years as a developer had taught me an important lesson - there's no problem too big and unsolvable; all you need is a little resilience. That is why when I got the confirmation of my internship in Freightbro logistics as a marketing intern, I wasn't scared that I haven't done marketing on an enterprise scale earlier.
It is the wee hours of the morning and I feel sleep deprived. This feeling is shared by all my fellow candidates, those coordinating the placements and many recruiters as well, some of whom have travelled from far places to be at the campus in time. Everyone knows that this is how the summer placement process goes on TISS HRM and LR, commencing before sunrise and concluding before the sunset. The roll call is taken for everyone around this time.
Excited about the opportunity, anxious about the impact I could create using the opportunity and overwhelmed by the heritage of an organization aging over 130 years, I walked into the multi-storey building adorned in warm shades of red, white and black.
