I interned at JSW Steel, Sales Department. I was assigned a project to estimate steel consumption in tractor and farm industry and build a strategy to enhance sales. It had both market research and strategy development involved. My location was Mumbai but I had to travel to cities like Pune and Delhi, which I feel was the best part.
How would life be if you went off the beaten path? Does your life up to now check all the right boxes? Degree college, MBA, getting placed at a dream corporate, is this what you dream of? What if that is not the case?
Summer internships are very funny, in the sense that you get to meet so many new people who are trying (read pretending) to be the most deserving intern that the firm has ever seen, working their backsides off to impress everyone around them and putting on a great entertaining show for everyone every other day.
With the notification popping on my phone screen and nerves full of excitement, I hurriedly read the offer letter asking me to join from 8 th April’2019. The big curve on my face suddenly narrowed down when I confusingly gazed at the location – Vedanta Limited, Lanjigarh! Never did I know that the upcoming two months at Lanjigarh (a small town in Kalahandi district of Odisha) would turn out to be a lifetime memorable experience, the imprint of which would never fade away!
Summers is an exciting time in the B-school journey. I too had a mixed bag of feelings and notions about the company and place I was going to. It started with a train journey to Jamshedpur and a stay at the legendary GET hostel. Soon after our orientation session, we were cabbed out to West Bokaro which is a coal mining division of TSL. Here, my project was on “Cost analysis of Amenities, Impact on employees & business due to outsourcing”. It was a 4-hour drive and my first view of Jharkhand’s enticing countryside.
