The GMC programme kicked off in the second week of March , when we received the details of our project as well as our mentor and buddy. I had multiple discussions with my mentor and buddy before coming to Mumbai to clarify the scope and deliverables of the project. These discussions gave a kick-start and were quite vital for me to get a deeper purview of the topic.
With a lot of excitement in heart and apprehensions in mind, I entered the grand premises of Mahindra Park on a bright Saturday afternoon. We were greeted with a welcome note and a box full of chocolates placed neatly on our respective beds. Spacious apartment with all the basic facilities helped threw early anxieties out of the window.
On a sunny Tuesday in the first week of April, with a multitude of feelings gushing through my head, I entered the M&M headquarters at Worli. The name “Mahindra” needs no introduction and has an unparalleled philosophy of “RISE” – which stands for empowering all its stakeholders and bringing positive change into lives.
How can any MBA student ever forget their SIP week! After all, this carves the path for our upcoming corporate lives. But more than that, internships provide an excellent opportunity for learning, networking, and interaction with some of the biggest names in the industry. Hence, my happiness knew no bounds when I got to know that I will be interning with one of the biggest Indian brands, Mahindra & Mahindra and that too being selected for one of the most sought-after programs, General Management Cadre (GMC) added a cherry on the top.
My experience with Mahindra began on a positive note several weeks before reaching the headquarters for the first day of induction. Mahindra was very prompt in sending across information about my project, exact deliverables and the “Good to knows” weeks before starting. So, the bar was set extremely high from the get-go and what I expected upon my arrival was an extremely professional work culture.
The day finally arrived when we had to move out of our hostel comfort and move into the corporate world. Being ranked 14th amongst the best places to work at, I was already excited to get a flavor of the culture and the respect this organization has commanded over the years. The induction proved to be an apt start for the same.
Having lived in Mumbai all my life, I had always known the Mahindra Towers as one of the most prominent official spaces in the city. So, it was naturally very exciting for me to have the opportunity to work at the same place as a part of my Summer Internship. As a part of the prestigious Group Management Cadre at Mahindra and Mahindra, the first three days were planned for our induction. The days were filled with interactive sessions with the heads of various sectors that are a part of the Mahindra group. The wide variety of businesses that are a part of Mahindra right from the Auto Farm Sector to Mahindra Holidays were introduced to us.
It was the first time for me in Mumbai, landing there with every sort of expectations and of course the fear of getting through this humongous city. That is where the planning efficiency of the Mahindra Group really came into play. Every detail, starting from our stay for the entire internship period at Mahindra Park to the POCs for all our needs were meticulously planned which made my whole arrival and checking-in very smooth. We were even greeted with a box of Ferrero Rochers (my favourite)!
