Department of Management Studies, Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee, is the milestone appended to my timeline of life on 13 July 2017. This day marked the first day of my two-year journey in MBA at IIT Roorkee.
Picking up the right MBA course is not an easy choice. Students relentlessly contemplate a career change and consequences of their actions many times. No wonder why most of them get stuck in the middle, it’s like you are stranded on an island with a boat but not able to decide which way to go. You spend days and nights devising strategies and alternatives that would help lead to the desired destination but still you would find many conflicting views propagating inside.

CAT 2012
My first encounter with CAT was in 3rd year, NIT Jamshedpur when I found my roommate buying coaching institutes course material. Being a Mechanical Engineer, all I wanted then was a decent job with a good pay. However, peer pressure made me enrol in one of the coaching institutes. Spent (rather wasted) Rs 30,000 as I hardly opened any book or took any of the mocks. Very soon the 4th year came and I got busy with my placement procedures. CAT was scheduled in November as usual, but I chose to skip it (a big mistake) and decided to go for the companies coming that day. Got rejected from that company as well. However, destiny worked in my favour and got placed at BPCL.
This is about my b-school dream which may come true after three years. I am now more of a dreamer than an aspirant. I want to live that hectic MBA life which makes you capable of tackling every problem you will face in life. I decided that I want to do MBA when I was in 9th std and from then on I started reading articles on b-schools and MBA life.
I am an avid reader of books and have read my fair share of start-up success stories. Whether it was about Jack Ma, Elon Musk, Peter Thiel or our on Desi entrepreneurs. They all have stories to tell and lessons to learn from. But it was by chance that I landed on this book.
When you are temporarily unemployed, it can be really challenging to update your profile on LinkedIn correctly and know how to conceal this unwanted detail. If you are between jobs at the moment, you need to understand what you should write for your Current Position and Professional Headline. Remember that the aim of updating your profile is to get noticed by the potential recruiters. Here is what you need to do in order to attract hiring managers and not drive them away.
Till about two years back, I had no interest in Human Resource Management. In fact, I never even imagined myself in a managerial role! For as long as I can remember, I was interested in literature and social sciences. After completing my schooling, I had taken up English honours at Jadavpur University, where the eclectic curriculum makes it one of the best courses on English literature in this country. I had also been learning French since my school days and by the time I got to college, French had become my passion. All in all, you could say that I loved what I was doing! Midway through college, I was offered the position of a part-time French teacher at Alliance Française du Bengale. Although I had no previous inclinations towards teaching, I took up this opportunity hoping it would be a great learning experience. And you can bet your money it was! So when my graduation was done and dusted, the ‘safest’ career progression for me would be to take up teaching full-time. And that’s where the trouble began.
