Congratulations! You've finally made it to a b-school. After 4 years of engineering, and (possibly) some work experience, you now stand at the gateway to the next level and achieving your dreams.
There was a three-month lull prior to joining MBA. Serving the notice period in my organisation, there was a constant tussle in my mind about what my future career as a manager holds for me. I was speaking to many people every day and trying to understand what will be a good specialisation for me to pursue. DON'T DO THAT. After three months into the blur called MBA, I realised that no one could have told me to pick a specialisation; and that is the essence of my article. One has to understand for themselves what their calling is and decide accordingly on their specialisation. In order to take the first step in the right direction, you really have to know yourself, understand your behaviour and the circumstances in your life that have shaped that behaviour. This is a call to all the engineers/non-financial background MBA candidates who are unsure of what to study. Speaking about myself, I was inclined towards finance because it sounded like "the thing to do". I was running everywhere reading up about Finance and the roles offered, trying to gather certifications among other things, that novice finance enthusiasts do.
Oh no!, I missed my assignment deadline again, shouted Ravi as he looked at his watch with one eye still shut and the other struggling to open from deep sleep. 'Dude, how can you be so careless?', retorted his room mate Sachin. Prompt came Ravi's reply, ' I am a fresher trying to figure out how to manage so many things that are being thrown at me one after the other, you must be used to this life since you have such a long work experience. By now you should have become the CEO of the company you were working in had you been even half as capable as I am.' To this, Sachin said, 'I agree that you are a fresher but what is with comparing your inexperienced self with me, if you have been able to submit the few assignments that you have has all been because of me'. 'Don't you think I should have worked for sometime before thinking about pursing MBA, it would have made my life easier in terms of sticking to deadlines at least', asked Ravi.
In the movie Spectre, the latest edition of the James Bond movie series, there is a scene which shows Daniel Craig trapped in a seat by his nemesis – Ernst Stavro Blofeld. Daniel Craig is chained to a machine, which has two needles waiting to pierce the skull of 007. However, like many of the previous 007 movies, he manages to make a miraculous escape which is preceded by a set of words – TEMPUS FUGIT (time flies) to subtly convey the time left to initiate a rescue for himself out of the dreaded situation.
8 AM in the morning, snoozes the alarm, wakes up at 8:45, to report to college at 9, after consuming the 249th spray of her 250 sprays deodorant. Jokes apart, but that’s precisely how life at b-school has been for me, in the past 2 months. Coming from a procrastinated lifestyle background, time management was quite a task for me to get used to. So here's a small attempt from my side on penning down my b-school experience in the past 2 months at NMIMS, Mumbai and how it’s made me a master at the art of time management, which I now proudly announce to be quite subtle.
Several times people already know what they want to do in life, where they want to work, who they are going to marry, how many kids they are going to have, but majority of the world is like me, we go with the flow, we let things happen, I do not know what is going to be the ending of this article, but I know I won’t stop until I am happy with it.

April 26th, 2017 was just another day when it started. I was late for my office, to begin with, and then was stuck in a miles-long traffic jam. As I was cursing myself for the delay, there was a notification alert on my phone. Since I didn’t have nothing much to do in the traffic jam, I checked my phone to find an email with the subject line “IIM Shillong: Admission Offer for PGP (2017-19). It took me a minute or so to let the feeling of getting selected in IIM Shillong sunk in me. And after that started the unbearable wait of one and a half months before I could start my journey at IIM Shillong
