"I have always been a sportsman. It's not the adrenaline pump that excites me about sports but the peace of mind that I get when I realize that when others choose to dream, I choose to mark my way towards glory."

In 1972, an Uruguayan chartered flight carrying 45 people, which included a rugby union team, their family and friends, crashed in the Andes mountains. 27 people survived the crash and sought shelter in the wreckage of the flight. However, an avalanche, and injuries as well as the cold took many lives, and only 16 people survived the incident. Stranded in the Andes mountains, they battled the harsh elements, and had little food and no fuel. They ultimately had to resort to eating the dead. Two members from the group undertook a gruelling 10 day trek across the mountainous landscape, and were finally found by a Chilean arriero. The rest of the survivors were then rescued. A film was made on this incident in 1993, titled ‘Alive’.

I love reading, not just a particular genre, but all of them. I enjoy devouring everything from ancient Greek mythology to modern high fantasy, from the exploits of Sherlock Holmes to modern high fantasy like Game of Thrones. As a reader, I’ve noticed a trend in the past few years that has caught my fascination.

Lose if you must, because when you lose you learn. And in this endeavor to help you learn more, to prepare you for the  war, Ares, the Greek God of War along with Mahindra and Mahindra bring to you the Mahindra War Room.

The process of Critical Thinking is inherent in everyone and is often the means to make the best decisions. While critical thinking is important, it often ignores the people involved and their emotions. It may help you arrive at the most logical conclusion, but that might not be enough to get your work done. Krishna Pratap Ramesh faced the same issue. A chemical engineer, NITIE alumnus and currently a Management Trainee at Marico, Krishna is an out and out logical person. Being an engineer, he had a very logical bent of mind and always placed ‘logic’ on a pedestal. He says, “I used to be a super logical person. I needed everything in a logical order and had a clear idea what should be done when, as guided by logic. When something did not go well despite the logic being precise, I would get irritated. That’s when my super-boss made me understand that everything doesn’t work according to logic all the time. The sequence usually goes like this - pathos, ethos and logos, i.e. emotions, followed by trust, and lastly, logic. This was something I had never considered and turned out to be the biggest learning for me when I interned with Marico.”
