Mad Men's Don Draper's Wisdom - Draper-ism

Rarely, comes along a TV show that leaves a lasting impression in the minds of the viewers, to an extent, that viewers seem to relate and imitate the characters as well as their idiosyncrasies. TV Series that manage to pull of a cult fan base, are able to achieve that because of their mesmeric characters, gripping storylines, intricate plots and the fan favourites, ‘quotable dialogues’. The key to a lasting cult lies in delivering consistently in each episode and leaving the viewers wanting for more, *cliffhanger*. One such show that became an obsession worth having, well, at least for me, was ‘Mad Men’.

So it’s coming to an end. A journey that began as an obsession after hearing a relative’s son getting one of those dream placements (Yes, I too am a part of the crowd that came in with probably the sole purpose of getting a hefty pay cheque and a good brand on the CV :P). With just three months left, the nostalgia has already started setting in, so much that I dropped the idea of going back home in the term break and decided to spend some more time on campus. As I look back at the 18 odd months that went by, I can’t help but think of what I really learned here. Surely the 5Ps, GTM, PESTEL, and PORTER will help me survive those boardroom meetings, but it is some of the finer lessons that this place taught me which will help me flourish in life.

Age Of Internet Of Things - The Management Perspective

We are in the world of Information and Connectivity. Don't we all know that our cell phones that continually gathers data about our whereabouts and activities? An expansive scope of organised data gathering gadgets are progressively being deployed in the public space, including CCTV cameras; ads and vending machines furnished with biometric sensors; and the indoor micropositioning systems known as "beacons" that, when combined with a smartphone app, send signals providing information about nearby products and services. The picture we are left with is that of our surroundings furiously vacuuming up information, each square meter yielding such great amount of data. But how is the Data Managed or Interpreted is something that can be an inquisitive hunt from a Management perspective.

I was asked by my teacher to choose an animal, as part of the class. The Creature that came to my mind was a Unicorn. Yes, it is a fictional creature with a magical horn and the white pristine feeling of purity and grace associated to it. Little did I know the animal that I was asked to think about actually reflected our character as per the teacher and it struck me on a personal note.
