This post is not for the weak. It's probably going to confuse you to a lot and you might hate me for that. Though it's my personal opinion but something needs to be said and I am just going to say it.
Following is the conversation I had with an Autowalla in Bangalore. Usually, I choose to stay numb and get lost in the company of my music player during such rides. But at this particular instant, I gave my earphones a miss and got into conversation mode.
We are defined by the choices that we make. Most of the times, these choices are made under a lot of uncertainty and hence there is no easy way of determining their outcome. Moreover, we are left in a catch-22 situation when we realise that the decision we made, wasn't the best and all we are left with is to rue the situation and keep contemplating about the 'what if' scenario. However, every dark cloud has a silver lining. And once we start looking beyond our disappointments, we might just be able to figure out how to make the most of such 'bad decisions' that we make. For me, 'Engineering' was one such bad decision and following is the story of how I created the silver lining amidst my dark clouds.
Hello, fellow aspirants! This is supposed to be a supplemental text for you, which you may or may not follow! Because, in the end, what I’m writing is my opinions, my understandings of the exam and strategies which I have applied or thought of! But before diving into the dos and don’ts I will try to explain what this exam is about and why this process is in place! Like many authors, I’ll start with a quote.
I am here. And I think I am comfortable here. I think this is the most comfortable place to be in. This feels secure. There is no existential pressure. Few marks variation. A little placement variation. All the good laughter to wash that down with.
“My humanity is bound up in yours, for we can only be human together.” Nothing and no one can question the veracity of this beautiful quote by Desmond Tutu. Not even IIMs. Yes! Much to the surprise of many who follow a school of thought according to which all the IIMs are stamped nothing more than a factory of producing hundreds of job-ready (read employable) candidates on a yearly basis.
There is an age old saying – “Man proposes, God disposes”. People say that one can never make the perfect plan, that no matter how meticulous you are something or the other is always bound to go wrong. To quote Linkin Park, ‘In the end, it doesn’t even matter’. However, no one ever talks about what to do after that happens, how to deal with the problem and come up with a solution. The simple reason for this is that there is no ‘right’ answer to that. The sheer magnitude and the complexity of every possible thing that can go awry is such a humongous number that even the human mind bows before it. The number of moves one can make in a game of chess after the first six moves stand at a staggering nine million. And life is much more complex than a game of chess.
