The Year That Was - The Year That Taught Me That Cliches Exist For A Reason - By Anu Kutty

The Year That Was - The Year That Taught Me That Cliches Exist For A Reason - By Anu Kutty

The year that was I remember eagerly looking forward to and waiting for 2016 to begin. The year of mammoth changes it was going to be. Some invited, others uninvited, 2016 brought in too many changes anyway. Little did I know that life would be changing gears at a very trippy pace. And that no amount of preparedness was going to help. Got suited up to get to a new place. With open arms, got sucked into this rat race. Filled with hollow-eyed humans chasing deadlines, I still found a teacher in some friends And a friend in some teachers.

'The Year That Was' - The Year Of Epiphanies

'The Year That Was' - The Year Of Epiphanies

It's funny how somberly 2016 crept in. I remember taking a solo walk, at 6 am on 1st January 2016. I pompously like to call it the beginning of my Go-solo saga! I had spent the night in a room with my favourite people, as we ushered in another year of ticking bucket-list goals. Now I didn't remember much. The spoils of the night seemed distant, the embarrassing videos conveniently pushed out of the corners of the mind... why didn't I see the sunrise more often?! The first day of the new year sounded so officious to my mind, yet the man and woman sweeping the dried leaves off the lawns did not notice anything special about it. Days crept in, days crept out. In all the bustling of the early morning, I walked on impassively, promising myself that this year will not just trickle by. This will be the year of change! In fact, it was only the previous night that I set my heart on going down the MBA road (until then forms and exams were only just mechanical). Thankfully, exactly two and a half months later, I had the opportunity to take the plunge!

Life And Lies At IIFT As I Interpret It- Divyansh Vashishth, IIFT- Kolkata Campus

Life And Lies At IIFT As I Interpret It- Divyansh Vashishth, IIFT- Kolkata Campus

It’s a late Sunday evening and everyone in the campus just had a terrible weekend after we were asked to attend 12 hours of self-help workshop on personal finance conducted by the pioneers of the industry.  I, for one, was looking forward to binge watch a new TV series that got a nine-pointer on IMDB and would have preferred to end the weekend on a high (ahem) with my friends at a local joint nearby. But I was stuck with a case study competition floated exclusively for top ten B-schools by a major consulting firm.  Not really an ideal weekend, if you ask me, but here’s something you can take out of it. In IIFT, almost all weekends are on similar lines. There is always some kind of value addition that is happening and it’s really up to you where you want to take this forward. Even if you are hell-bent on spending your weekends secluded, the curriculum and the administration will ensure that you do the things that will only take your career further in the right direction.

The Power Of Appreciation

The Power Of Appreciation

One of the deepest cravings that people have, is to be appreciated. It is no different in the corporate world. If you observe high performing cohesive teams, you will find that they instil superlative performance through appreciation rather than discourage negative behaviour through criticism.

Having an additional qualification always helps. MBAs are given preference over non-MBA degree holders, especially when you wish to climb the corporate ladder. If one aims to be in legal and government compliance industry as a Company Secretary, MBA should definitely help. The areas where a Company Secretary is expected to have decent knowledge include company law, finance laws, taxation, accounting, etc. Therefore, choosing for a specialisation among one of these can take one to the heights of success.
