Dr. Janaki Naik, an academician with 22 years of work experience has complete clarity and belief that a course may be called well designed only if it improves the employability of a student. She says, “Academia should get inputs from the corporate world, before a course is designed to ensure that the industry get young professionals who can hit the ground running”.
Through its Industry Institute Interface sessions, SCMS Cochin School of Business does its best to offer its students a platform to learn from the experiences of corporate bigwigs. This particular session was a unique opportunity for them to hear about a different, yet integral, aspect of business: labour laws and issues. Mr. Mohammad Sayid, Labor Commissioner, Ernakulam District, was the esteemed speaker for this session and he made students aware of the challenges young managers face when dealing with trade unions. His talk also highlighted the importance of keeping the labour force satisfied.
The second weekend of August 2015 will see IIM Bangalore becoming an oasis of new ideas from across the nation as the institute gears up for its Annual Entrepreneurship Summit, Eximius 2015. The Entrepreneurship and Innovation Cell, IIM Bangalore organizes Eximius in close association with the internationally acclaimed N S Raghavan Centre for Entrepreneurial Learning (NSRCEL) at IIM Bangalore. This year’s theme “Let's get started!” celebrates the passionate zeal of entrepreneurs to take initiative and solve problems around them. It aims to encourage aspiring minds to get started as the world stands at the cusp of a technological, economic, social and Cultural Revolution.
When you have the kind of experience that Kishore Kumar has, a regular MBA is quite unnecessary. With 8.5 years of focused work in organisations such as Bharat Electronics, Bangalore, Visakhapatnam Port, Mumbai Port and Megasoft Ltd., – where he was setting up the Fire Control Radars for Indian Navy K-class & B-class warships – only a highly-specialised Executive MBA would do.
“In KIAMS vision of ‘Excellence’, my focus is primarily to build the academic rigor to give KIAMS students the skills needed to succeed in the competitive world and to reach the pinnacle of success”, says Dr. C.N. Narayana, Director KIAMS, who has recently joined the institute. He was sharing his understanding of the vision of KIAMS is to provide society a center of learning that excels in Management Education, Research, Training and Consultancy. His efforts are directed towards encouraging the faculty members to bring more output on research and publications. “Training and Consulting will automatically follow once we excel in Education and Research”, he adds. KIAMS has the Centre for Executive Education, which is clearly focusing on Executive Education.
Students of SCMS Cochin School of Business recently had the privilege of listening to Ms. Cuckoo Joy, Manager, Centre for Excellence, General Electric Company, Texas. She is a renowned professional who has made giant strides in the industry and is a much sought after speaker. Therefore, her talk held on the 12th of March attracted students in large numbers. The fact that the session revolved around student aspirations and the challenges they face while realizing them, made sure that the audience had plenty of takeaways at the end of the day.
