For Anith Puthiyankath (SCMS-Cochin, 1997) getting his products to the shelves of Harrods (London) has been as much about producing the very best, as it is about saying the story well.
With the Indian economy growing and the present government focusing on development, there’s an increasing emphasis on infrastructure. After all, it’s the backbone of growing economies and that means there is a demand for skilled professionals with specialized training in the field. The PGDM in Infrastructure Management (PGDM-IM)) program at Adani Institute of Infrastructure Management (AIIM) has been designed to mould professionals to handle the challenges in all the phases of a project. And that’s why it goes way beyond and has an edge over the regular Construction and Project Management courses offered by other institutes.

Admissions opened to the 1st Batch on 23rd April, 2015 In what is being seen as an important development on the B-school horizon, the Adani-Group backed Adani Institute of Infrastructure Management - known as AIIM - has rolled out an AICTE-approved, fully residential, 2 year PGDM in Infrastructure Management. Admissions to the 1st Batch has begun just with effect 23rd April, 2015. Up until now, AIIM had been conducting a niche course - PGP in Infrastructure Management (PGPIM) which will now be delivered as Executive PGDM in Infrastructure Management from academic session 2015. The participants of the PGPIM course were mostly being inducted into Adani Group; in companies like Adani Ports and SEZ Ltd., Adani Infrastructure and Developers Pvt. Ltd., Adani Enterprise Ltd., Adani Townships & Real Estates, Adani Gas Ltd., and Adani Mining Pvt. Ltd. While AIIM was raised in 2009, companies beyond Adani were first invited for on-campus placement just about 3 years back. Ever since PGPIM graduates from AIIM have been picked up by a number of core infrastructure conglomerates. While the pay packages in placements have been seeing the steady rise, 2014 has been quite a watershed with infrastructure giants like Larsen & Toubro, IL&FS, Thermax, Howe India Ltd., The Dhamra Port Company etc., offering AIIM PGPIM participants more than double the salaries than what they previously used to draw before joining the program. AIIM has now opened its gates for aspirants looking for pursuing PGDM in Infrastructure Management. “The PGDM in Infrastructure Management is a course that is the need of the hour,” says Mr. Chetan Bajpai, Business Head, Industry Relations, AIIM. “We’ve had to substantially increase the intake of the PGP in Infrastructure Management, almost every year. But we have realized that the dearth of quality managers at the intake level for core Infrastructure project management is a critical concern of the infrastructure industry and needs to be addressed immediately.” Infrastructure is the fastest growing sector; growing at above 10% of the GDP. The industry has a huge appetite for managers groomed to take on responsibilities specific to Infrastructure. While a healthy number of participants in PGP in Infrastructure Management come from a core Engineering background, a noticeable number come from commerce and humanities stream as well. AIIM is planning to retain the same balance in its newly launched PGDM in Infrastructure Management as well. In the First year, students will complete a core curriculum that provides a thorough, integrated grounding in management & infrastructure essentials. Much of it is likely to be in the field, with “real world” focus on site visits, independent projects, and summer internship. In the Second year, students will round off their degree with umpteen number of elective courses that allow them to find their space in the massive Infrastructure industry. Right from the beginning, participants will be closely working with industry practitioners. The course schedule is likely to be peppered with MDPs, interaction with industry leaders from various infrastructure verticals. In short, AIIM will make full use of its roots with the Adani Group. “The Electives have been designed through our continuous evaluation methodology from the Adani Companies of our parent group, alumni, and industry connects,” says Mr. Bajpai while elaborating on the PGDM-IM pedagogy. “The faculty at AIIM strongly believes in helping students find the area that interests them most. Since we are industry-backed, we know the managers are happy when they are passionate about their work. The idea is to prepare managers who are ready to hit the ground running; and in the long run, business leaders who are well equipped to face the challenges of managing the fast growing Infrastructure & Allied Sectors.” AIIM is a brainchild of Mr. Gautam Adani - also the Chairman of Adani Institute of Infrastructure Management. Mr. Adani, a first generation entrepreneur, is the Chairman and Founder of the 8 billion dollar Adani Group, is amongst the Top 10 Richest Indians. Founded in 1988, the Adani Group started with Port Infrastructure, and in a very short period of time grew into a globally integrated infrastructure player with businesses spanning coal trading, coal mining, oil & gas exploration, ports, multi-modal logistics, power generation, Agri Infrastructure, edible oil & transmission and gas distribution.
