When we talk about healthcare innovation in India, the names of pioneers like Aravind Eye Hospital, Shankara Nethralaya and Narayana Hrudayalaya usually spring to mind. I guess its natural in a poor country like ours that our first thoughts go to organizations that have been successful in bringing high quality, low-cost care to the poor. But, if we take a more holistic view, others have made a significant contribution to making healthcare what it is today, even if there are several challenges still remaining.
Indore was the venue of a mega event last week, the third Madhya Pradesh Global Investors’ Summit (GIS). This was a start-studded event, with a who’s who of Indian industry sharing the stage with Prime Minister Modi and MP Chief Minister Shivraj Chouhan. The general mood was positive - everyone continues to bask in the glow of the optimism created by the new government and the hope that good days are ahead.
Big Data is such a buzz word today that everyone keeps throwing it around without fully understanding it. In fact we have seen CEOs and CMOs talk about it at various conferences without fully knowing how it can help their company or to the listeners. Big Data is useless without a context and without a clear goal in mind.
The External Relations Cell of IIM Calcutta presents the 6th episode of the Insight Series. For this edition, we have with us Prof. Anirvan Pant from the Strategic Management Group, speaking on the evolution of the IT Sector in India and how some of the Indian IT Firms successfully transformed to becoming MNCs. The Indian IT industry as you all know with a strong revenue base of $115 billion has been a significant contributor (8%) to the GDP of India. Prof. Pant, with significant experience in this industry, has shared his insights with us.
By an interesting coincidence, I spent two successive days last week attending events related to manufacturing competitiveness. The first was a panel discussion organised by CII Malwa Zone to coincide with the launch of the Prime Minister of India’s new “Make for India” campaign, and the second was a day-long seminar designed by the Institute for Competitiveness (IfC) that culminated in the award of the Porter Prize.
