Hello, fellow aspirants! This is supposed to be a supplemental text for you, which you may or may not follow! Because, in the end, what I’m writing is my opinions, my understandings of the exam and strategies which I have applied or thought of! But before diving into the dos and don’ts I will try to explain what this exam is about and why this process is in place! Like many authors, I’ll start with a quote.
Quantitative Aptitude, a section which evokes mixed responses amongst various CAT takers. For engineers, it is expected to be a scoring area; whereas aspirants from non-math background often have to pull their socks harder.
With less than two months to go for CAT 2017, I can’t help but think about the phase when I was in the same situation. Mounting exam pressure, crunch deadlines at the office, shrinking social life, all of this and what not. After two casual attempts, I had made up my mind to give in my 100% for CAT. I had started my preparation almost nine months before the exams. What followed was months of hard work and sleepless nights, but all of this finally paid off. I had calls from IIM C L K I and all new IIMs. I finally aced IIM Lucknow and became a proud Hellite. In this article, I will share with you a few pointers that helped me ace the exam. They are not words from the Bible but simply a few strategies that worked for me. Do give it a read. I hope they help you meet your goals too.
YES, we are living in a myth that there are no other MBA specialisations except marketing, finance, operations, and HR and that the game is only about PGDM v/s MBA! Many MBA aspirants and students are still residing in the dark when it comes to choosing the specialisations. But the reality is that today we have many good options to go with such as retail management, financial services, international business, communications etc. If one chooses to do MBA in these dedicated fields, then it gives an opportunity to be more competent in one’s respective area of interest and from the very first day, one is made to learn and know every detail of the chosen specialisation whereas for other so called coveted specialisations such as marketing, finance, etc., one can learn only general concepts of MBA and it is only the next year when the main course is taught hence if anyone goes with the specialised courses, then it saves one’s time for growing the required knowledge and it allows preparing better and earlier for acquiring the skills pertaining to that specialisation.

Many of you might feel lost as to where to begin with and which source to rely on. There are some days which have the potential to turn our lives for the better or the worst. Upon one such day, I found myself sitting in a room along with several others waiting for the same purpose as mine - The VGSoM MBA Interview. We watched in silence as the screen in front of us displayed the room allotment for our interviews. While waiting for our turns, some of us got together and glanced once again through the WAT/PI kit, which was generously shared by the Admission Committee to help us prepare for the interview. We were, soon, called for the interview. I was greeted with a smile by the interview panel, and this somehow helped me calm down my nerves. The interview went on smoothly and was done in about half an hour. On the whole, the entire process was thoroughly streamlined and concluded without any hassle.
Getting to the point directly, a lot of aspirants keep asking why their marks aren’t increasing in Mocks even after they have covered the syllabus. Now check this graph.
