Any journey to an IIM is a herculean task by itself and one who goes through the same can definitely understand the painstaking efforts and intense competition he has to go through to ensure that he gets into what is known as the “Best of the Best”. Having said that, let me take this opportunity to share the experiences of my journey.
Mumbai. A place where dreams come alive! It was the most clichéd thing I’d heard, cringing at the lack of originality every single time until it happened to me. Making it to an IIM was no mean feat but the first thought after the call from IIM Indore, Mumbai campus was would this be worth the effort I had put in or should I attempt CAT once more. Many frantic calls later, I was all set for this new adventure.

June 2016, Kolkata. As I was going through the contents of an e-mail that I had just received, notifying me of my final selection at IIM Sirmaur, I knew my life was about to take a turn. A turn for the better, hopefully. It’s been two months since I have joined the Post Graduate Programme at IIM Sirmaur, and all the skepticism about joining a “baby IIM” has already vanished into thin air. Opportunities galore. If you ask me to capture in words the most striking element of being a part of a new institute I’ll say it is the plethora of opportunities that one here has access to. You initiate things, see them grow and take pride in their existence. Be it a cultural event or a literary competition, a marketing club activity or something that the finance club does – the world of opportunity here only gets bigger by the day. When something you create assumes grand proportions, the joy and the sense of ownership it brings along is unparalleled. After all, you don’t follow a trend. YOU SET IT!
The last month to the CAT is extremely crucial. Hopefully, by this time you have completed all the texts you wanted to solve, have everything you wanted to memorize firmly etched in your mind because bhai, ab Dilli door nahi. It is the last mile to CAT, and that last mile requires the most effort. Here are five tips to survive this month:
When you turn round the corner and find yourself facing a wall which appears to be a dead end, you will eventually find a small by-lane which is a shortcut to a bigger and a better route. This, when told to me by one of my professors just fell on deaf ears. However, I could truly realise the potency of those words only when I experienced the situation.
