But are there things you should know before you enter the portals of a B-school and are hit by the workload of case studies and myriad assignments? Deciding to color my hair blue may not have any far reaching consequences other than inviting the wrath of my parents, but many other choices we make, do. And one among the many that do, is deciding to do an MBA. There can be 100 different reasons as to why one would decide to pursue MBA. You may wish to take your career to new heights, achieve financial stability or become an entrepreneur. You may want to give your eager parents a good enough reason to postpone marriage or you might simply it because your beloved is joining MBA and, of course, how can you be left behind. Sometimes, not knowing what else to do can also land one in a B school. Whatever may be the reason, doing MBA is a significant decision in one’s life and can turn out to be life altering depending on how you spend those 2 years.
You see them roaming around in the campus and they seem to fit in so well with the normal junta. But wait until you here their stories and you realize that they are the ones bringing in the real diversity to the campus.
Living 2 years of my life at an IIM is what I had always dreamt of, and this wish converted into a reality when I received the conversion email from Indian Institute of Management, Nagpur. It has been 2 months since I have been at this place but I can assure you that being a non-engineering student at any b-school is a different experience altogether. If you are from commerce background, you have basic knowledge about almost all the subjects taught at a b-school. This helps you in grasping the subject better. When the professor would utter words like “working capital” and “contribution” you will just look around, observe the bewildered faces of your classmates, and sit back peacefully.
Every year thousands of candidates are shortlisted to be interviewed by the IIMs but only 20-30% of them succeed in converting their IIM calls. According to a professor in IIM Kozhikode, on an average only one candidate gets selected in a day per panel. Naturally, the interviewee must be prepared to shine out among all other aspirants interviewed by the same panel. But how to prepare oneself for the same? What exactly are the panelists looking for, is the question that bothers every interviewee. A couple of candid conversations with the professors of IIM Kozhikode, helped generate some insights which hopefully would bring some clarity on this.
