Team InsideIIM caught up with Mr Rajiv Dabhadkar, an expert in the field of inward and outward immigration. In our first interaction, we ask him to share his views on H1B and L1 Visa Scenario in the United States.
Amidst the smell of fresh parathas and a flurry of people around, I got off the taxi to find my destination- IIFT, Delhi. I walked through the gates on 29th June, 2015 and the journey till now has been incredible.
A year has already passed and here we are – the 2015-17 batch, most of us thinking about ‘this time last year’, when after having given most of our entrance tests and interviews, some of us were left in the state of embarrassment of riches, some of us had to make a choice between two equally good colleges and the rest of us had all hopes pinned on IIFT. For me, there were no hard judgment calls, to say the least. Admittedly, it was not something I had to ponder over much.

It was in 2012 that I graduated from NIT Warangal, one of the best engineering colleges in India. When I was placed at Oracle, a company that offered me a fat pay check, I thought I had achieved pretty much that I wanted. I had it all: a bachelor’s degree from an institute that engineering aspirants dream for, a job that most engineering graduates would envy. Working with Oracle for almost 19 months, I had this dilemma: should I go for an MBA or should I continue with my handsomely paying job. While a Masters degree would help me rocket my career, my job would continue to give me a soothing lifestyle in Bangalore.
This season we bring you the second part of our series “MYRAcles”. In this part we talk to the young talent at MYRA School of Business, Mysore and share some interesting experiences that they had at the school. This time we meet Vikram Singh Thakur, a Mechanical Engineering graduate and a second year PGDM student at MYRA. Vikram speaks about how,the time that he spent at the school, the immersion learning pedagogy and the exchange semesters helped him evolve as a professional.
It was early 2014. CAT results were out and I had managed a meagre 90%ile which obviously would not have allowed me to enter the top notch B-schools. I didn’t write IIFT that year because it had my biggest nemesis in the form of GK. I knew I couldn’t clear it and thus it occurred that IIFT was beyond my reach. But as they say, a small advice can change your life, it actually happened with me. Mission MBA 2015 was on.
Back in 2012 ,my decision to study Political Science at Delhi University instead of joining NIT Kurukshetra came as a thunderbolt to my parents and relatives - I got a similar response from them when I expressed my desire to do an MBA instead of joining JNU for Master’s Degree . But then Indian parents would never say a ‘No’ to a PGDM from an IIM.
