To appear for SJMSOM WAT/PI process, a separate application is required to be filled along with the CAT score. Candidates get shortlisted based on the CAT score and overall profile. I got the communication from the Institute in the mid of February 2018.
After sailing through the high tides of CAT17 exam, I had to climb the mountain of WAT/PI process to get into my dream IIM.
It’s that time of the year again – ADMISSIONS! As I look at yet another set of shiny, suited-up candidates looking at new ways to answer the question “Why MBA” without mentioning money in it, I am reminded of my own ordeals last year. What began as my idea of entering the big, bad world outside had me introspecting and reflecting on my own actions more than any other experience in my life.
Coming from a family of bankers, I have grown up listening to discussions of stock markets. Stocks were my breakfast, and Financial insights were my lunch while economics was served as desserts in dinner. The default news channel was CNBC, and hence, my eyes eventually learned to follow the fall and rise in stock prices. Tracking stock prices, running to call my father if there was a sudden movement in any of our picked stocks, albeit without much understanding much of it, became much of a hobby for me during childhood.
The journey from being an aspirant to getting into a b-school has many levels. The first level is to crack the examination, after which you ascend to the next level - GD-PI. It is in these rounds that candidates are further shortlisted before they finally get a ticket to their dream b-school. Interviewers are not only looking for your academics and scores but also your interpersonal skills, your long term goals and your motivation to pursue an MBA.
We are in the MBA admissions season, and for some, it is imperative that they get into a top management institute in 2019 itself.
I did my B.Tech in Chemical Engineering from Manipal Institute of Technology, Manipal and passed out in May, 2017. I had decided to pursue my MBA after my B.Tech but I did not write the entrance exams in 2016-17 as I wanted to prepare well and I felt I would not have the time at the campus to put in the necessary effort. Also, based on inputs from seniors and friends I felt it was necessary to attend a good coaching center for my MBA preparation and there were no options in Manipal. I, therefore, decided to write the MBA competitive exams in 2017-18 to start my MBA in June 2018.
