It’s that time of the year when you take your last lap towards the finish line of the race. A race which started a long time ago. A race towards your dream B-school. It’s the time MBA aspirants put on their crispest shirts, brightest smiles and head out to face the most dreaded hours of their lives.
It was last week of December 2016 when my result came out. It was IIFT. One of my close friends called me that results are out and he asked me for my roll number. I told him after checking it on my laptop. That moment was a very intense one with a lot of things going on in my mind. As IIFT gives out a list in PDF, everyone can know who got through. My friend told me “Congrats! You got through”. Suddenly, mind went to a relaxed state from a tensed one and I myself wanted to check my results and opened the website and found my name there. This was a really happy moment. Then, from the next day, I started preparation for GD-WAT-PI and things were going on as usual. Then CAT results got declared on 9th January. I got a percentile, from which I was sure of getting at least a few IIM calls. Days moved on and calls started coming, first was IIM Kozhikode then IIT Bombay (SJMSOM) then all the new IIMs and finally TISS (HRM & LR). I prepared for all the interviews. It made me travel a lot as I was living in Ranchi and had to go to Kolkata multiple times and to Mumbai 2 times for interviews.
It was a new mail notification from KJ Somaiya! I was waiting for it for days, and here it was. I was in a flea market with my friend and surrounded by hundreds of people. I had all the negative thoughts in mind before opening the mail, but I smiled! I got through. It was a feeling that you don’t get every day.
“You’re an Engineer. Why MBA?
At the outset, I'll be stating my assumption: most candidates view b-schools (primarily) as placement agencies (other attributes are secondary). It is very unlikely for a candidate to invest lacs of rupees in a degree with no job prospects. Certainly, no rational individual will take a huge educational loan if re-payment prospects (through great placements) are not assured.
It was in January 2017, that I received a profile based interview shortlist for SPJIMR. I was working in KPMG’s office at Goregaon, Mumbai when I received the email. I was absolutely overjoyed at the proposition of being a part of a premier business school based out of the financial capital of India and also my hometown.

I exactly remember the date when I received a call letter for the selection process at SJMSOM- it was on 15th of February last year. Little did I know, that among all the selection processes that I would be a part of, this letter would take me to the best one.
