Aman Vaishnav's Interview Experience At SIBM Bengaluru

The panellist was the same from the GD. They welcomed me and started with a question. "So you have left your job, right? I knew I have to give the reason behind it but as I started, they interrupted me and asked about the thermodynamics's concepts which I answered correctly.

The Perfect Interview Does Not Exist

The Perfect Interview Does Not Exist

More than 1.5 lakh people write CAT every year out of which some 10k-20k people don’t appear for the exam. Of these 1 lakh people lucky few get the calls from IIMs for interviews. A big-time challenge for this lucky herd is to convert the calls. Failing to secure a percentile decent enough to get a call could be disheartening. But not converting your calls is heartbreaking at many levels. A normal candidate began dreaming about studying at his dream b-school since he starts preparing for CAT and these dreams intensify after the call from the ‘dream’ b-school. I couldn’t sleep the night I get the call from my ‘dream’ b-school. Your dreams go to another level. And imagine, if you are not able to convert any of them! All those dreams, hopes, plans, flushed down the chute. So it becomes extremely important for you to crack these interviews. Only they stand between you and your dreams.

And plus, acing an interview is very different from acing the CAT. I would broadly divide the interview preparation into 3 categories -

I don’t precisely remember the date, but I think it was on the 23rd of Jan, 2017, when the results for NMAT were declared. I submitted my SOP, which I made sure was the best that I could write at that point in time. (Also had a few friends proofread the SOP to make sure that no errors were left unnoticed).

Congratulations! As  I say that, I recall my call letter and with that the confusion to drive my interview process through the maze of relative scoring and entangling questions. Having said that, I understand that all of you, my dear friends, are right there trying to figure out the perfect mix between “tell me something about yourself and the aligning strengths & weaknesses”. But before I begin to share with you my journey through the maze, I’ll put forth some background information, for you to gauge that what acted in my favour and what did not.
