A late night mail pops-up around 11pm saying I have been shortlisted for GMC Summer Intern Program at Mahindra & Mahindra. After various processes, I was tagged as GMC Summer Intern along with 65 others selected from various b-schools across the country; a tag which I will be carrying all along.
It was, as they call it the 0th day. The entire day had passed by with no significant boost to my morale. Albeit, no shortlists. But there comes this company which grills me for 3 hours and then decides to keep me. Converted. It was Amazon India. Little did I know, the summer of ’16 was going to be so eventful, and probably going to last forever. (I love that song you see)
Palms, beaches, blue skies, tea gardens and an exotic holiday experience – the first thoughts of being a summer intern in Sri Lanka were nothing short of mesmerizing. The importance of an internship experience cannot be overstated, especially for an MBA student. It is a stepping-stone into the corporate world, testing waters when it comes to deciding what you want to do in your career. This applied to me as well. Being an outspoken city girl from an engineering background, I always thought marketing was my future as opposed to a finance one due to my lack of prior knowledge or work experience in the field.
Some experiences are better forgotten; some are etched into our memories forever. The summer of 2016 was nothing like I had imagined, but far better than I had hoped it would be. And I feel fortunate to have had an experience which made saying goodbye so hard.
On April 2nd 2016, I was so excited about my two months of internship at Unilever starting next day. I was bewildered to find that my flight to Mumbai for the next day stood cancelled. After a talk with the airlines representative I got alternative arrangements made going to Mumbai via Bangalore instead of directly from my home in Chennai. Finally I reached Mumbai on April 3rd, my first visit to Mumbai. I hailed a cab and reached the HUL HO learning center. When I opened my room I was pleasantly surprised by 2 things:
