My Summer Internship In At Tolaram Group, Lagos - Nidhi From IIM Ranchi

Most of us would have seen Lagos in movies, but trust me Lagos is much more different and interesting than how it is picturized in movies and what the world usually thinks about the place. I can say that surely because I got to spend my summer this year there and that ended up being the most memorable experience of my life. This was my first trip out of India. During this internship I got to learn a lot and I got to meet some of the happiest people in the world. The locals are really warm and friendly. It may be too hard to believe because whenever we hear Nigeria, we can only think about Boko Haram. But Lagos, where I spent my summer, is beautiful. No doubt that the place is quite poor but there are two kinds of people: extremely rich and extremely poor. But even the people who are not that rich are always happy and cheerful all the time. They enjoy their life with whatever money they have.

In retrospect also, I cannot imagine that my summer internship at CEAT Tyres would be this life changing. It started out with the email with my project title. My fellow interns got projects in CRM, Supply Chain, etc. I was also expecting some run-of-the-mill project like that. My project title had the word “IPL” in it. And common knowledge suggests that IPL happens in the months of April and May. CEAT sponsors the strategic time-out. I connected the dots. A kick-ass internship in marketing which involved cricket. Perfect. My joy was unbound.

Summer Internship At SnapDeal : Where Passion Meets Chaos - Sharath Kumar's Story

“Now do a sales pitch in Hindi”, The HR told me and leaned back in his chair. I was dumbfounded because I had already told him that I didn’t speak much Hindi. Being from the south of the equator, I am not used to conversing in Hindi and doing a sales pitch in Hindi was definitely not my thing. However, determined to nail the interview, I gave it my best shot. The end result was a pitch that barely qualified, one that was dotted with English and gratuitous use of hand gestures. I was dejected, I’m sure it showed on my face. After working tooth and nail to get into an e-commerce company, my lack of proficiency in a language was to stop me. It did not though. I was offered the internship after two more interview rounds and accepted it with a beaming smile. Later on, at Snapdeal in Gurgaon, I asked the HR personnel who interviewed me how my sales pitch was.
