With a strong yearning to discover more about e-commerce, I was overjoyed beyond words to have bagged an opportunity to intern with eBay India. The fact that I would get to work at the Mumbai Business Head Office of the oldest e-commerce company in India was the icing on the cake. I was getting a seat next to the directors and producers in order to observe how the grand movie actually shapes itself and it changed the way I used to think about ecommerce in India.
HOW IT ALL STARTED I still remember my early days into B-school life. However nascent I may have been as far as the MBA program was concerned, I was pretty developed in my thoughts of working in E-Commerce sector and that is the mindset with which I entered IIFT Delhi. The "usual" engineer that I am, courtesy my undergraduate degree, means that I am also a technocrat and simply find it fascinating to see how technology is not only impacting lives, but also completely revolutionising the way we do pretty much everything. This forms the basis of my love and passion for E-Commerce sector. Even while I was working with my last organisation before MBA, I somewhere craved to head towards the E-Commerce sector. So it was natural that I aimed for securing an internship offer in an E-Commerce firm and I consider myself fortunate enough that not only IIFT provided me enough opportunities for the same, but also I managed to bag an internship offer with Clues Network Private Ltd. (henceforth referred to as ShopClues).
“Girl, you have bagged one of the most difficult marketing internships – Pharma Marketing!” – this is what one of my JBIMS colleagues had exclaimed when the final result of Abbott Summer Internship was announced. Well, I now realize what my colleague really meant then. And this realization meandered in my mind as soon as I embarked on this internship and you will know why as you go through my summer internship journey. Along with this, I will be also going to share some of my key learnings (tidbits) from this internship which will double up as an advice for future MBA internship students, especially the ones who wish to pursue internships in the marketing domain.
Human life is ephemeral but great experiences make this life to be cherished and nurtured. One such experience I had while working at HSBC as an intern.
I experienced a breezy evening in Mumbai as I left the airport to make my way to the company Guest house. The sight of the sun setting in a mix of auburn and yellow, with the landscape alternating between the rather old Victorian style houses, a plethora of blue-roofed slums and the large modern corporate buildings was truly picturesque. Looking out the window of the cab it felt like it was the beginning of something new – and it was, an experience that got me highly acquainted with Glass like never before! It starts – Full Speed Ahead!
