Overcoming Hardships - Lokesh B., TAPMI

Overcoming Hardships - Lokesh B., TAPMI

Right from my childhood, I had this fear of public of public speaking. Whenever I was asked to speak in class, I would get very nervous, stutter so hard, finally end up screwing my speech or presentation. This happened for a long time till my 10th Std. Then I started asking my teachers, elders and seniors in school about how to overcome this. They gavee a lot of valuable tips and ideas. One thing that really helped me was extensive reading and talking in front of the mirror. I started reading novels and newspapers regularly. I would take up some current affairs and practice it as if I was presenting my whole class, in front of the mirror.

After the completion of my undergraduate, I ventured into the field of sales. Having an introverted personality, I was aware from the start that it would be a challenging field for me. I wanted to avail the opportunity to change myself and may be explore more about different kind of personalities. My job required to visit clients that were way older than me. After the initial turmoil, I started to understand that every single personality that I communicate with has some set basic values that will reflect in his conversation and that gives a sneak peek about   his/her personality. With this realization I began to study people not objectively but experientially. This helped me to be comfortable with external environment and with this established comfort I began to realize I was exuding the same in the sense I was able to understand and communicate with every age group in a in depth manner.

During the early days of my life, my family was in a financial crisis and coming from a middle-class family, I was always little thrifty on my spending as I have seen my parents struggle to keep me and my brother properly furnished and they have tried their very best to keep us out from knowing our financial struggles and situation. This part of my life has created a significant impact on my future. This gave me all the reason to study and achieve great things in my life. I have worked hard and placed myself in the top 3 percentile of the students who attempted engineering entrance exam of our state and this got me a seat in the oldest university of our state (Andhra University) which was a dream college for many. I was delighted with the fact that I am not burdening my parents with my education fees as the tuition fee for the college was 10,000 per year and this was the least I could do something for my parents In return. After successfully pursuing my engineering, I got myself a job in one of the top MNC’s and it was the proudest moment for me and my family. I felt very grateful that God gave me an opportunity to show my gratitude. After a lot of thinking I have decided to pursue MBA which was quite a big decision for me and my family and by God's grace we are financially secure and my parents supported my decision facilitating me with the opportunity to pursue an MBA in a premier B-School. Lastly, I want to end this by sharing an important lesson I have learned in my life which is, that we should always remember the roots that we came from and the struggles we faced.
