A smooth sea never made a skillful sailor. There is no life where the road is paved like a Formula 1 race track. It would be a shame if it were the case. Like everyone else I have had my share of challenges, yet I sit here at TAPMI’s knowledge center writing this article.

Most of the kids have a stigma about scoring fewer marks in school but I felt challenged when I played for a club. I was a basketball player and I believed I played good as I was selected just after one practice match. I played positions of a shooter and rebounder. I started playing in matches and my name used to appear in newspaper often. Hubris as they say is one of the seven sins. I was replaced by another player as I neglected practice. It took me a month to come to my senses and fight my way back in the team. I did get back in the team after two tournaments  and I was top scorer in the next.

The toughest challenge that I faced was when I started working for AMW motors. After a training of 2 months I was made a warehouse manager. A role I had no idea about. I didn’t know as they say the a,b,c’s of warehousing. On top of that I was told that the workers were not paid regularly and they were on a strike which ended two weeks back. This was the reason my predecessor had left the job.

So I had to deal with two situations at the same time. I thought that this is the opportunity that nobody gets and I should be thankful. I made a rapport with the people by working with them on the ground picking, packing materials and driving the forklift whenever they were shorthanded and thus I ensured smooth working of the warehouse. Handling such responsibility on my first job out of college was a punishment I never regretted.

I never really had long term goals but I had many short term goals and I fought for them fiercely and achieved them. There were times when I failed but what I learned is that is how it goes sometimes and we have to start again with a positive mindset.

Challenges feel terrible when we are facing them, only after a successful exit from the storm is when we realize the beauty of it all. I party feel energized when I face such times, maybe because I have seen my parents fight their way out into a good life.
