You must have a solid foundation if you’re going to have a strong superstructure.”

Integrity, Commitment, Passion, Seamlessness and Speed are the five pillars of Aditya Birla Group which stands as the rock solid foundation for the great empire built upon it. These are the five values that can help one to achieve one’s dream irrespective of the challenges life throws at them.

When I look back to the time while I was preparing for my Engineering Entrance Exam I find a timid little girl engrossed in her books, but right a month before her exams something changed that made the little girl a fierce warrior. A month before my Entrance Exam my mother was diagnosed with Dengu and had a blood platelet count of approximately 10,000 which was too critical. She was in ICU for more than 15 days and with each passing day without any significant recovery, it became a matter of life and death for her.

My father and my elder sister were busy taking care of all the hospital formalities and arranging blood on a daily basis for transfusion and I was left with the responsibility to take care of my mother, home and also to focus on my studies. Listening about the grave condition would send chills down my spine. But when I heard that my mother is worried that her condition would take a toll on my future as I am not able to study. I realized there was no scope for fear or tear. We need to stand strong as a family.

I started managing my time between hospital, home and coaching and made it a point that no matter what I will give my best and never let my parents feel the same again. I got into a good Engineering College, completed my graduation with flying colours, worked in the sector of my choice and here I am pursuing my MBA from a premier B-School.

The sense of responsibility and determination that I learnt then had helped me to sail through all the challenges I faced in my life.

Life is not always to be at its best, the way you always desired or the worst the way you feared but it’s always somewhere in between these extremes that if you sail through will give you a life long learning.
