I’ve always felt that small moments make a big life. When I look back at any of my accomplishments so far, I know they began in the small moment when I said to myself “Let me try.” When I look back at any of the happiest memories, they were but small moments of joy shared with loved ones.
When I look back at the small but significant moments, I appreciate the companions that shared those moments with me.
I remember a challenge that I faced early in life - The dreaded tenth standard boards. For many students in India, this exam marks the start for their career ie; it’s the first stage where one faces challenges in his life.
As I approached this landmark moment around the late 2000s, I felt a difficulty in clearing subjects. One, in particular, was SANSKRIT.I had taken it up as the optional subject on suggestion of my friend’s elder brother without even knowing what its about or how difficult it would be for me to study.
Eventually, I came to know that Sanskrit was not my cup of tea. I failed miserably in several of my class unit tests. There even came a situation when I was called upon stage in the morning assembly and teased upon by my class teacher for being the only student of the entire school’s history of 30 years to have failed in Sanskrit.
This incident humiliated me to the point that I started to look at this as a challenge. As tuitions were not so prevalent at those times and also considering  the fact that the subject itself was one of the least preferred among  school going teenagers of the place, I was left to study this on my own.
I finally took it as a challenge as to find a way to study the subject and enrolled myself in a Sanskrit Paatshala at a temple. Under a Guruji, I was able to learn the subtle language of Sanskrit. This experiment changed the way I perceived the subject and also proved to be very beneficial academically as well.
Later that year I became the class topper in Sanskrit and also went on to compete in several competitions privately.
This first major challenge became a source of strength in meeting later challenges. Often, in hindsight, a challenge seems easier than it was when one was still facing it. But even the small victories of the past can give the courage to face the big challenges of the future.
