For a nation whose diversity outweighs its density, India has always been a market of attractive opportunities and prospects. Thus, it is no surprise for the common man to smell the presence of several corporate giants in his mundane life. Aditya Birla Group, or ABGL as it is known, is an Indian MNC whose companies play in a wide range of industries, from telecom and textiles to manufacturing and AMCs, and are dotted all across the country.

I have always carried the impression of a studious and hardworking boy, or to put it another way, I wasn’t really allowed to participate in other activities to maintain my focus on studies. After finishing my higher secondary education (12th Science), I was sent hundreds of miles away from my home to Kota and thus, I received my first phone and a ten-digit easy-to-remember phone number. And the number belonged to Idea cellular. Since 2011, the Idea number has penetrated my personal life and made me depend on it every now and then. It has been my Whatsapp contact ever since, has been linked it every identification card of mine, and most recently with my bank accounts. But most importantly, the Idea network has widened my relationships with friends, peers and family members. And as they quote, “Big makes distances disappear”.

The land of Sambalpur, where I have spent more than a decade of my life, has been blessed with a number of scenic beauties and sacred spots. It is a budding educational hub and most popularly is known for the longest earthen dam, Hirakud Dam. The significant presence of Hindalco at Hirakud, Sambalpur offers the workforce an opportunity to become an integral part of the manufacturing industry. As a part of the huge ABGL family, it also recruits resources from all around the country, which as a result enhances the productivity of the plant in a relatively modest place. Thus, the presence of Hindalco justifies “Big is the lifeline”.

“Fashion never ends”, says Mark Zuckerberg, played by the immensely talented Jessie Eisenberg in the critically acclaimed The Social Network. The brands under the ABGL umbrella are some of the finest examples of offering people with a plethora of fashion options as well as competing fiercely with rival companies. In Bhubaneswar, for instance, Pantaloons shopping centers have garnered a loyal footfall and have become an essential part of the young generation’s fashion destinations. Allen Solly and Louis Phillipe just aid to these choices by offering variety of clothing options and by their sheer presence in most of the major shopping hubs in the city. “Big is all about great style” and ABGL has indeed established a loyal brand equity through these brands.

There is no denying of the fact that ABGL has a substantial impact in the lives of the people and the above examples play to its strengths.
