I have thought for a while and tried to write about a recent challenge that I have faced.
The incident is about my role in the internship I have recently done with one of the stock broking firms. I am a core finance student who have only finance subjects from Trimester 1, which means I have no subjects related to marketing or operations as such. The role I was provided was a Marketing plus Sales of one the financial products of my firm. I had to take up the role and was said that I had to sell at least two products to get an internship completion certificate with good feedback from the firm. Half of the people with me in the internship were from marketing stream. I had no choice left rather than picking up the challenge and go forward.
I have tried my level best and tried to learn as much as possible about the product, and I was well equipped with the details and working of the product. The training was finished in ten days and the marketing/sales phase has started. I have approached as many people as I can, and always thought if I pitch the product with all its benefits and the strategy it uses in generating returns people may be interested in the product. However, it was not that easy to convince a person to invest it takes a lot of effort. He/ She should completely be convinced that it is the best product available in the market. I have made persistent attempts by visiting posh localities of the city to get some clients. Few were aware of the markets and said they would invest in their own, few were not interested, few were procrastinating their decisions, and this went for some ten odd days. I have collected contact details of the people who were interested in the product and asked me to get in touch in few days.
Finally, after putting efforts for some 15 to 20 days, I had my first client who has invested in the product. I was very glad I could convert one. This really boosted my confidence and in some more days I had one more client on board for the firm. I was glad that I have finished my target in time. This instance made me realize that Hard work pays off!!
