An introduction to a company which is just 38 years shy of reaching the 200-year mark would consume the article in its entirety. However, credit must be given where It’s due.
Founded by Seth Shiv Narayan Birla in 1857. The group is currently invested in 13 different business streams which directly impact the lives of millions of people and which provides employment to more than 1,20,000 people.
Why is Aditya Birla Group big in our life?
When we ask this question to ourselves. The first answer to pop up in our mind would be very general. As in my case, the revenue of the company (US$ 44.3 Bn) popped up and I directly related it to the number of jobs they create, the taxes they pay to the government that eventually benefits us and the amount they contribute to the CSR. While those are still astonishing figures, the actual realization dawned upon me when I started exploring more about the company, specifically how they directly impact me.
To be honest, it took me a while to go through the list of achievements they treasure in every field, starting from CSR awards, Energy conservation awards, Safety awards to Industrial relation awards and lot of other prestigious awards.
However, one of their CSR undertaking stood out and stared me in the face. The Aditya Birla Centre for Community initiatives and Rural Development, which works in 5,000 villages, reaching out to 7.5 million people annually.
How did it impact me?
As children, most of us would have had the privilege to be born able bodied and grow up in an environment where everything was available to us. But we seldom reflect on this aspect of life. However, as I grew and started understanding things, I realized it is high time for me to reflect on this aspect of life. This further led me into understanding the life of the children with certain disadvantages like being differently abled, living in a remote area without access to quality education, etc. After knowing all this it is hard to pass by without doing anything. I also wanted to contribute my part, but life isn’t that simple, I had to carry on with it and make some time to do my part in a microscopic scale.
Coming back to the question, while Aditya Birla Group has and will impact me in a lot of ways through cellular network services, cement for my building and the lifestyle shopping experience. The one thing that impacts me the most is their effort to providing quality education to the disadvantaged group of children in India. I feel they are able to fulfil the dreams of a lot of people who want to directly help such disadvantaged group but due to certain reasons are not able to.
It would not be exaggerating if I conclude by saying that they share my responsibility towards the society.
