Amongst the most trusted business houses in India Aditya Birla Group is well known for its corporate governance and financial management. With their presence in fields ranging from food processing and agriculture to infrastructure and financial holdings, there may not be a soul whose life Aditya Birla group has not touched. The group has demonstrated its nonpareil ability in creating businesses from scratch as well as being a leader in businesses traditionally hold. They have demonstrated unparalleled ability in energy efficiency, sustainable growth and being pioneer in brand development.
I have many tales to praise the group which are never ending. I am narrating an incident which not only made me a fan of group and its management but in a way saved the face of business in which I was dealing besides my job. It was crucial time phase as we were very much behind the project. A visit was planed by the client and HVAC service of the full area was pending. It was a first-time work by my school friend and I was placing order and material specification description for all products required in services. There was a particular requirement for sheets with certain specification. I was very comprehensive but misjudged the IS codes and had placed for a different gauge than required. After arrival there was a verification by visiting engineer (client) and he pointed out the discrepancy. We were perturbed by the finding, not only it was a technical issue but could incur huge loss. I had talk with the supplier and after much negotiation he agreed to take back sheets on condition that we were to bear the transportation charges. The measure hurdle now was the supply of correct gauge sheet, where excellent management of Aditya Birla group came in picture. On placing our new order with several new suppliers we did not have a very promising response on timely delivery. Since delay was not an option for us as it would lead to financial penalty, the pressure was mounting. We managed to get the phone number of area manager of HINDALCO and contacted him citing our issue. The response we got was most satisfying and he took this job as if his project. He contacted several distributors. He called us personally and in con-call we talked with distributor for expeditious supply through one of his vendors. Finally, we were able out complete the setting in extended time and save our face with good enough margin.
I am keen to share this with everyone to demonstrate the capacity of Group in dealing with such a small customer as us. Although it was not of any big economical or obligatory deal for company, the way they dealt reflects the ethical value the group as whole. It is one isolated incident, but I am sure the company must have touched many such hearts.
