During my childhood, my parents always made me believe that nothing is impossible. If you put your heart and soul into something, it will come true. Growing up as an introverted child, I faced a lot of challenges during my schooling. It soon became clear to me that although what my parents told were true, I would have to face a lot of obstacles on the way.
Introversion was my enemy. It stopped me from interacting with people, affected my confidence levels and in turn affected my personality on the whole. I was great at studies, but somehow I felt I was being limited by this. With a strong determination to overcome this, I started looking for something which will help me.
One of my dad’s friend introduced me to Toastmasters. Soon I was intrigued by the concept of public speaking and started researching on it further. Through him I got to know that there is a Youth Leadership Program specifically aimed at kids like myself. I discussed the prospects of joining this with him and finally decided to give it a try.
My first day at the YLP program I realized that it was one of the best decisions I had taken. After the 2 month long program, I could see the change in myself. It helped me get over my fear of public speaking and helped me interact with others in a better manner. The change brought about by this laid the foundation for my career and is the very reason I was successful in my work as well as the reason I am doing my MBA and would possibly help in my future career.
