Life is a bag of good and bad, happiness and sadness, struggles and cakewalks. We face many challenges in life. A challenge can be defined as something new and difficult which requires great determination and effort. I believe that every individual has the potential to tackle such challenges.
Instead of talking about the challenges I overcame in life that helped me achieve my ambitions so far, I would like to talk about a few challenges that brought out my capabilities, certain hidden. It helped me decide on a career path that would be suitable for me and I can excel in. I faced a couple of challenges when I was the Vice-Chair and Secretary for The IEEE Student Branch during my college days. We had re-opened the Student Branch in 2015. We had 3 members and had to join 50 more. Since the subscription fee was very high people did not show interest. With the right approach we could enrol 75 members. This was when I discovered the leadership and negotiator skills in me.
During my tenure in The IEEE Student Branch our team had planned a technical fest. I studied in an all-girls college which made it difficult to talk to our management to allow students from other colleges especially boys to participate, which would increase the competitive spirit and provide opportunities to extensive learning. Our college management had very conservative views about a lot of things. Our team could still convince our management. We achieved this by first stepping into their shoes and understanding their point of view and inhibitions and then worked on how to convince them.
Every situation in life teaches us something and every lesson we learn helps us grow into a better person. But faith in oneself and confidence is all what matters. If it was not for these attributes in me, I would never have discovered where my true interests lie and would not be where I am right now.
