Part A : Why Aditya Birla Group is big in my life
Aditya Birla Group is an Indian multinational conglomerate, headquartered in Worli, Mumbai, India. It operates in 35 countries with more than 120,000 employees worldwide. The group was founded by Seth Shiv Narayan Birla in 1857. The company has its main business in 7 sectors. i.e. non-ferrous metals, cement, carbon black, textile, fashion, telecom services and financial services.
ABG is big in my life mainly because of its fashion and telecom services. I love Forever21, which is one of the subsidiary of ABFRL , almost 60% of the clothes I own are of this brand, not only does this brand provides with customer friendly rates but also keeps a check on the latest fashion. Secondly, My present telecom service is Vodafone, after its partnership with Aditya Birla Group to form Vodafone Idea Limited, it has resolved the problem of weak cellular strength and network in remote areas, as for my last trip to Barsu, We were the only one getting our signals even 4G sometimes.
Aditya Birla Group has engaged in impactful, welfare-driven activities in India and globally, and since I’m a social worker too, I’m a big fan of the impact they’ve made over so many lives. The Aditya Birla Group works in 5,000 villages, reaching out to 7.5 million people annually. Over 60 per cent of these people live below the poverty line and belong to marginalised and vulnerable sections of society. In this endeavour to make a difference to the lives of the underprivileged, ABG has partnered with government bodies, district authorities, village panchayats and other like-minded organisations. ABG also collaborate with external agencies to share ideas, draw from each other's experiences, and ensure that efforts are not duplicated. Service to the community is at the core. We work with WHO, Australia India Council, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Habitat for Humanity, CII, European Union (EU), Global Compact Network, International Rotary Club, National Skills Development Council, FICCI, NABARD, NACO, CARE, IGNOU, Aide et Action, SEWA, BAIF, MYRADA, Basix, CARD, Art of Living Foundation, Smile Foundation, Maya Foundation, Childline India Foundation and local NGOs.
Going by the stats, up till now Aditya Birla Group works in 5000 Villages, reaches out to 7.5 million people, has treated a million patients, runs 5000 medical camps, immunised 70 million children against polio, operates 56 schools for 45600 students, has provided solar lamps for 450000 students and midday meal everyday for 63000 children in 268 schools.
Touching so many lives, including mine, Aditya Birla Group has me ‘wooed’, and I hope to woo it too.
Part B : Overcoming challenges to achieve my ambition in life
The most significant challenge I’ve faced so far was at the age of 17. Due to emotional turmoil and unfortunate circumstances, I didn’t score well in class 12th boards. By the time I could hold grasp of the situation, a lot of time was lost. Having failed to perform well in my class 12th boards, the people around me let those marks define me, How could they not, these marks were a scar I had to take with me through my undergrad studies, my post-graduation consideration and through job interviews. My parents thought it would be best if I settled for options like the School of Open Learning, but I knew I deserved better and could do better. I knew I couldn’t let these marks, and this defeat define me, I knew I had to change my fate and rise above this failure. I planned to ace the Delhi University – Joint Admission Test, an entrance which could open those doors for me which my low scores n 12th standard had sealed shut. My vision that failure is just a scar and not a tattoo guided me, and I knew to heal my scar I had to put in a lot of hardwork. Despite my marks I secured admission in one of the best courses offered by Delhi University - Bachelors in Business Economics honours. My hardwork and determination helped me sail through one of the toughest times in my life, and gave me back my lost sense of self worth. Learning from my defeat made me realize, I didn’t really lose, and it gave me a fighting spirit to overcome all hurdles in my life, and there I planned to carry that fighting spirit with me throughout my life, Through my graduation, My CAT exam and now through my IMT Ghaziabad life now too. Ever since I’ve overcome this challenge, I’ve never stopped pursuing my goals relentlessly and achieving milestones. My rise moment in life was knowing that no difficulty I face in life will ever overtake me if my determination to succeed and rise above it is strong enough. My ambition in life is to pursue marketing, and in IMT Ghaziabad I’m one step closer to my goal, and here by pushing myself to do more and out of my comfort zone, I overcome new challenges everyday, the challenges that come with independence, challenges such as multitasking between committee work, group projects, academics, case study competitions. Here I’m pushing myself to be the version of myself I want to become, the best possible version of me, and I plan to always continue to push myself to do better throughout my life, and never stop this journey of personal growth I understood 5 years ago.
