ABG: An Integral Part of Life

Aditya Birla Group being a $44.3 billion corporation is active in 14 different sectors and has achieved global and national leadership in several businesses. There would not have been a single day where a product of Aditya Birla Group had not made an impact. Right from the school days, where my mother used to wrap my lunch in Freshwrapp, a product of Hindalco industries, to the time when I landed my first job in Bangalore Aditya Birla Group has been impacting my life throughout.

During my stay of 3 years in Bangalore, More Megastore has been a preferred stop for all my groceries and household needs. With its wide range of products coupled with aggressive pricing, More Megastore made it more convenient for me. ABG’s More Megastore is one of the few stores in India that has incorporated self-service checkout kiosks (partnered with Perpule) for hassle-free customer shopping experience. The self-service checkout kiosks allowed me to bill the products by scanning the barcodes with my smartphone and paying electronically via card, payment banks or e-wallets. In a busy schedule of a working professional this feature saved a lot of time.

Bangalore being the most congested city of India a lot of time is wasted in commuting across the city. Some projects like Yeshwantpur-Nelamangala elevated expressway and Bangalore Metro (old) helped to reduce the traffic burden to some extent. I, being a travel enthusiast, have travelled several times on Bangalore-Mumbai highway and the elevated expressway saved a lot of time.

Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail Limited (ABFRL) hosts India's largest fashion network. It has introduced clothing stores that made the concept of branded clothing for all a reality with brands like Van-Heusen, Louis Philippe, Allen Solly, Peter England, Pantaloons, Madura Fashion and Lifestyle. Being a MBA student, business formals are a must to have and yet again ABG played a small but significant role to help me find a jet black suit from Louis Philippe.

Personal Milestone

During my school days, I got a serious habit of stammering that led to stage fear, low self-esteem, low confidence, and my soft skills took a serious hit. The situation got worse when my language teacher used to make me read the textbook in front of the whole class and I used to stammer badly and whole class made fun of me, mocked me day in and day out. This habit of stammering made me an introvert as I was very reluctant to meet new people because of very low confidence. My inability to speak fluently created a mental barrier that prevented me from taking participation in debate competitions. Therefore, to get rid of this habit I came up with a plan and the plan was to speak less and at a very slow pace so that I don’t fumble and mix words. As it is very rightly said, “He that can have patience can have what he will”. So as planned I could control the pace of my speech that eventually reduced my fumbling. After persistent efforts of almost 2 years I got rid of this habit. Since I was taking ample time for speaking this allowed me to think and speak which I believe was and still is a very big asset when it comes to social interactions. This episode gave me the most important learning of my life that to achieve anything in life one needs few basic but hard to acquire skills like patience, focus and perseverance.
