"What you wear is how you present yourself to the world, especially today, when human contacts are so quick. Fashion is instant language." —Miuccia Prada
Fashion and lifestyle are like a non-verbal language that everybody uses in our daily life, to express our selves. And some of us are so fascinated by this idea, that it makes us very selective about the image that we are presenting of ourselves to the world. Therefore, we make conscious choices about putting our best feet forward at all times.
Our world is progressing towards a more conscious and mindful society, which addresses for equality of both men and women in all aspects of our life, especially in workspaces. Since centuries, men and women have been dressing in certain conventions dictated by society, majorly attributed to the kind of work they do in their everyday lives. Women, as we know, have been bestowed upon wearing feminine dressings, across nearly the entire globe, that are not work-oriented wears. However, the ‘women of today’ are different. They are proving their competency at all phases of life, especially in workspaces. This brings an essential change in how women dress in work environments, where women and men are coexisting and working together.
Today, women wear suits, blazers, shirts, jeans, T-shirts, etc., which were earlier confined as men’s wear. Therefore, it brings an opportunity for women to overcome the barriers and restrictions that the feminine dressings would usually incur in their work and get into more comfortable and work-oriented dressings. And, which is one company whose apparels truly caters to the need of ‘women of today’? The Aditya Birla Group and its subsidiaries, which includes Allen Solly, Van Heusen, People, and Pantaloons, is the first name that comes to the mind of ‘women of today’ that understands our style and requirements. All these brands have been my no.1 go-to to get both of my casuals and formals. The quality and the pricing of all its apparels puts trust and credibility amongst many of the customers like me. Therefore, Aditya Birla Group is big in my life.
Apart from that, I am an empathetic human being who feels responsible for contributing to society. Being a passionate fashion enthusiast, this puts me in a position to have a vision wherein I can cause the amalgamation of both the fashion and philanthropy. As my first step to achieve the same, I worked as an intern in an NGO that operates in one of the most remote villages of Assam. I had the opportunity to work in a project where the organization helped the local female weavers, who weaved clothes that were exclusive in its textile and motifs, and provided a platform so that their clothes can be exhibited and sold in the national and international market. During the internship, I drafted a Business Model with the aim of uplifting the then present business model. I also did field work wherein I interviewed and drafting impact stories of the women associated with the organization. I believe that I could put in some contribution from my end, by suggesting new ideas for their business model. Along with that, the impact stories helped in bridging the gap between the stakeholders and their employees. Being a student of Physics background in my undergraduate, I had very little access to the sort of knowledge required for actualizing my ultimate dreams and passion. However, today, I am an MBA student in one of the most coveted B-Schools in my country, IIM-Ranchi. I feel enthusiastic about learning and feel confident that this shall be an opportunity that I will remain utterly grateful for. The company giants, such as The Aditya Birla Group, put up a benchmark in their commitment in the textile and fashion industry. It inspires me, one of the ‘women of today,’ for the kind of competency and vision that one would pursue to work in this industry.
