ABG the bridge that connects the rural to the urban.
The first thing that came to my mind reflecting on the Aditya Birla Group is the celebrated ‘The Honey Bunny’ promotional song. The song released when I was a fresher in my grad college and I can vividly remember all the memories of us humming the song returning from a monotonous lecture. The song was a perfect ode to the Indian folklore which emotionally engaged the people of rural India.
ABG as an entity has a huge impact on my life and was omnipresent throughout. To elaborate a few instances, I have encountered ABG’s presence very early as ‘Ultratech’ was the sole cement supplier in my village around the ’90s and most of the residential buildings in our area has been built using ‘Ultratech’. ABG as an entity not only made their presence felt in the remotest area but also proved their ethical abilities by providing free helmets to the field workers.
When I left the nooks of my village to earn a living in a new city, the first stop for all the formals was ‘Peter England’. I remember porting to ‘IDEA’ post-paid, as they have provided the best plan for the corporates. Working for a consulting company with round the clock support made me realize the importance of outdoor activities and sports apparel from 'Skult' got me covered. This high-quality athleisure brand brings the perfect blend for modern-day working individual to go for that Saturday morning jog.
Now when tracing the footprints of ABG in the Indian economy, I can clearly identify the bridge that connected the urban with rural and it holds strong. These instances portray the unending impact that ABG has in my life and to the life of million others across the nation.
Challenges that transformed the life of a country boy.
Challenges are the process which cultivates the seed of forwardness in human lives. challenges work as a driving force to the new and unexplored territories of life. As a believer of this school of thought, in each step of my life, I have enjoyed stepping into a challenging situation. Be it solo traveling to an unknown place or a difficult code fix to production, challenges have always got the better of me. I would like this opportunity to tell a story which has impacted my life personally and professionally.
As Benjamin Whorf said, "Language shapes thoughts and emotions determining one's perception of reality."
This is a story of how I have overcome the language barrier in communication. To, give a brief idea of my background, I was born and raised in a small village named Tulshihata of Malda District, West Bengal. I studied in the native Bengali medium school where I completed my Higher Secondary education. After that to pursue my graduation, I joined KIIT University, Bhubaneswar. Here apart from the regular challenges of academics, I also faced severe problem in conveying my thoughts and ideas to different peers regarding various student activities. And in this phase, I realized the importance of communication in the life of a professional. I started working on my language skills by making small achievable goals. I started to interact with more people in my vicinity to understand the dynamics of the English language. This was a tough terrain to hike but, deep down I knew this is something which can open new horizons in my career. And now, while drafting this from my room at IIM Ranchi, I realized how far I have come into this journey. Today when I reminisce about my village, my school it fills my soul with more energy to move forward, to find new challenges and to learn new realities of life.
