PART- A
Cement, branded apparel, chemicals, fertilizers, financial services, telecom,
BPO and IT services you name any of these, and you will find a significant role of ABG in it.
With a legacy of more than 160 years, ABG has been able to find a place in every household of the country. Being a teenager, it was always a headache to go to single owner shops to buy apparels. Coming up with a consolidated fashion market, Pantaloons(Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail Limited )
made life easier for most of the Indians, including me. Being an imperial part of Telecom business,
Idea Cellular brand which started as a joint venture with the AT&T and
Tata Group now accounts for one-third of the entire ABGLP market capitalization. I have been using Idea for more than three years,
the services being so excellent and consumer-friendly, I never got any reason to switch to any other telecom operator.
The cement business managed out by UltraTech Cement, which is India’s largest cement company. ABGLP carries out its
carbon black business after purchasing Columbian chemicals company which is now the largest manufacturer of carbon black worldwide.
The group also owns the Birla cellulose brand and is the world’s largest producer of viscose staple fiber. It operates from India,
Laos, Thailand, Malaysia, and China. It also owns acrylic fiber business, viscose filament yarn businesses and spinning mills in India and
South East Asia and also has pulp and plantation interests in Canada and Laos.
All these services provided by the company make it very important in the lives of millions of customers in the globe, including me.
PART- B
Being the Secretary of the Cultural Association of the University, it was my responsibility to conduct the Annual Cultural Festival
like every year. It was one of the most significant Cultural events of Odisha which saw a footfall of three thousand odd people, from various
parts of the state and country. It needed tremendous planning and workforce to pull off something this big. The preparation started before a month.
Till 19th everything was done including stage setup, promotion, confirmation of artist. Until the university saw the welcome of a new dynamic Vice Chancellor that day. As we were too busy putting final touches to the festival preparation,
that we forgot to intimate the VC about the ongoing development. VC had his reservations, and he decided to call off the SUNBURN event,
which was happening for the first time in the state. It was a significant blow to the entire team as a lot was invested in the circumstances both financially and physically.
We tried to convince him in all possible ways, but he had made his decision. I was under tremendous pressure as managing the students, the vendors, the administration
and the entire SUNBURN team at the same time was not at all easy.
At the morning I decided to try one last time, and I asked the VC for the previous meeting. I gathered a group of renowned seniors of our batch who were best in their fields and
went to the meeting. With my seniors, I tried to convince the VC intellectually and with facts. Seniors shared their past experiences, the glory, and outreach of the event.
Somehow the VC was convinced, and we were successfully able to conduct the event.
We conducted the first ever SUNBURN in the state. More than three thousand people participated in it.
