IMT Ghaziabad, India’s premier AACSB accredited management school with a distinct focus on Innovation, Execution and Social Responsibility, concluded on Friday, July 29, a two day international conference on “Facets of Doing Business in Emerging Markets” in collaboration with College of Business Administration, University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) – with deliberations spanning topics such as Sustainability, Innovation, and Entrepreneurship in the context of unique challenges and opportunities in the emerging markets.
The conference witnessed participation in the form of research paper presentation from delegates representing many countries and also brought together an Industry Panel as well as an
Academic Roundtable. The inaugural session was addressed by R Gopalan, Former Secretary, Ministry of Economic Affairs and Sanjeev Agarwal, Senior MD and Co-founder of Helicon ventures. The Industry Conclave witnessed talks from Lars Reuter from SAP, Manish Sinha from Vectus, Mamta Saikia – Vice President, Bharti Foundation, Santosh Kumar Pattanayak from Heavy Engineering Corporation, Swati Pandey from the Confederation of Indian Industry, and Gopal Chandra Mondal, Director-finance, IDFC foundation who shared their views on sustainability and inclusive growth as an underlying factor in all business domains.
The Academic Roundtable comprised of a panel of illustrious academicians from several domains. T Gopinath, Director, Department of Economic and Policy research, RBI, spoke of the economic viability of doing business in emerging markets vis-à-vis developed countries. He shared insights on the role of macro-economic stability in sustainable development. Other panelists, such as Kallol Baghchi, College of Business Administration, UTEP shared his insights on criticality of computer ethics and Rajesh Chakrabarti from the Wadhwani Foundation spoke on inclusive and sustainable management through the public policy lens. Manoj Chakarbarti from IIM Bangalore spoke of developing a pedagogy on inclusive growth as a subject in b-school, Rashmi Aggarwal shared her views on legal aspects of sustainability development, and Kampan Mukherjee spoke about changing management programs to inculcate the concept of sustainable business.
The conference brought about an amalgamation of multi-dimensional views on business development and concluded with academicians and students gaining diverse perspectives from several business as well as academia.
