Background: Dual Degree in Materials Science and Engineering

Work Experience: 20 Months

Date: 5th March 2021, Afternoon Slot

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the interview processes at most of the B-Schools were forced to be online. But unlike most of the B-Schools, the interview process at SJMSOM was unique and one of the finest. Though separated by the distances of our home, the interview process joined each and every candidate with the admissions team of SJMSOM using the GATHER TOWN. It is a video calling space and mimicked the offline interview process but without the WAT. This process was unique to SJMSOM.

Before the interview, I was asked to log in and report in the afternoon slot on Friday. Initially, all the procedure was explained to us very nicely by the admissions team. The initial process for me was to get my documents verified.

Then after the document verification, I was asked to wait in the waiting room along with the 3 other students and a member of the admissions teams in the waiting room later to proceed into the interview room.

It was a zoom meeting space and we also interacted with the students coming out of the interview room. After that, I was called to the interview room. There were 3-panel members, one subject faculty from our graduation background and one from SJMSOM, and alumni.

P1: Tell us about yourself.

Me: Gave the readymade answer

P2: What are your hobbies?

Me: I told him that I like playing Badminton, Cooking, and poetry.

P2: Tell me the components of a Garam Masala.

Me: In none of my interviews I was questioned about cooking, so I little surprised, but i answered easily.

P1: Tell me your favorite part of chemistry.

Me: Physical Chemistry

P1: Tell me about Boyle's and Charle's Law

Me: I explained to him to the best of my knowledge

P1: Tell me any 5 uses of physical chemistry in real life

Me: I was able to explain 2, but got stuck later

P2: Tell me about p-type semiconductors

Me: Explained with proper explanation

P2: Do you know how does Quantum Tunneling Works

Me: Told him about the basic concept and the formula

Alumni: Tell us if you were to start a business, how will you divide your team?

Me: Explained in terms of function like Finance team, HR Team, Sales Team, etc

Alumni: Who gets benefitted if a larger company buys a smaller one?

Me: A detailed discussion happened over this and after that, I was asked to leave the meeting

After coming out of the interview, I also shared my experience with other candidates and then took my leave.

The overall interview experience was wonderful and became even better when I finally converted the interview call.
